Shift Engineer (Casual) Job Status: Casual

Wage & Pay Grade: $49.82/hr. (PG 60C) + 10% in lieu of benefits and vacation

The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 116-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15-day annual summer Fair which averages more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year.

We are seeking an experienced and hard-working individual that has a passion for building maintenance/trades, the events industry, and the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE).

The Shift

Engineer of the PNE Tech Services Department will report to the Chief Engineer.

The Shift

Engineer will operate a variety of building, mechanical and electrical tools/equipment in compliance with all health and safety requirements as determined by WorkSafeBC, and all other applicable legislation and company policies.

Please Note: This position will be casual in nature; shifts are dependent on work flow and staffing levels.



Casual Shift Engineers must be available to work a variety of shifts, including day, afternoon, and graveyard shifts if required.

What will you do this year? In your role as a Shift Engineer , your primary accountabilities will be to:

- Be responsible for the Operation/Maintenance of HVAC/R Systems
- Operation of Ammonia Refrigeration Plant Equipment
- Operate a variety of building, mechanical and electrical equipment including utilizing DDC services
- Perform and document preventative/demand maintenance to related equipment
- Operate, maintain and make skilled repairs to all equipment connected with assigned facilities as per the established procedures and standards
- Maintain a clean work setting
- Coordinate the work of contractors when required
- Liaise with event managers and clients during events regarding technical requirements
- Read blueprints and understand technical manuals
- Perform other related duties as assigned

What else?

- Must have a 4th class power engineering certificate; and additional related technical training is preferred
- Must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and provide an up-to-date Driver's Abstract confirming a clean driving record.




- Knowledge of the operating principles and procedures of hot water heating, ventilation, water filtration, water treatment, air conditioning and Ice Rink Ammonia Refrigeration Equipment and related controls including DDC services
- Working knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, HVAC/R and electrical systems
- Skilled in the use and care of all maintenance tools and equipment involved in the job
- Experience using a CMMS system (Limble preferred) for work order management, preventative maintenance, and asset tracking
- Must be capable of working at heights, lifting heavy equipment (up to WorkSafeBC restrictions) and working in awkward positions
- Must have knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions related to the work performed
- Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking English for the purposes of written or oral instructions, timesheets and documentation of work
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, including days, graveyards, evenings and weekends
- Candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check
