Street Maintenance Technician The Town of Woodstock invites applications for a street maintenance technician within the Department of Public Works. Come join our team!! The Town of Woodstock is seeking an energetic and hard-working individual to join the Public Works Department as a street maintenance technician. This position performs intermediate, semiskilled work maintaining Town streets, grounds, rights-of-way, buildings, and related work as apparent or assigned.

The work is performed under the general direction of the streets crew leader.

The Town is seeking a candidate who has some knowledge of the materials, methods and practices essential to the maintenance and repair of streets, storm drainage, sidewalks,



and related infrastructure; some knowledge of street signage and marking; some knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; some knowledge of secure driving practices and occupational hazards of the work; some knowledge of tree care, grounds maintenance, pesticides, and other landscaping functions; skill in operating construction and maintenance equipment; the ability to understand oral and written instructions; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

A high school diploma or GED and minimal experience in street and ground maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required. The selected candidate will be required to obtain a Virginia Class B commercial driver’s license, Registered Technician for Pesticide Applicator certification within one year of employment.

VDOT intermediate Work Zone Certification is to be acquired within two years of hire.

The position is at-will, full-time, with some night, weekend, and holiday commitments. The pay range is $17.94- $21.53 and is classified as an FLSA non-exempt position. The Town offers an excellent benefits package in addition to on-the-job training.

The Town of Woodstock is an equal opportunity employer. Qualifications Maintains, repairs, replaces, and inspects streets, stormwater infrastructure, and sidewalks. Responsible for maintaining streets, snow removal operations, managing vegetation and landscaping in public areas (including mowing, herbicide application, cutting brush, etc.), maintaining drainage systems, installing signs, general grounds upkeep, and assisting with seasonal public events.

Provides prompt response to all street emergencies and assists with water or sewer emergencies to restore services to the community. Responsible for maintaining work zones compliant with VDOT and municipal safety standards. Operates and maintains heavy equipment safely and efficiently all required equipment to complete all seasonal duties.

Heavy equipment to include backhoe, dump trucks,



rubber tire loader, mini excavator, skid steer, boom axe, tractors with implements, and vibratory rollers. Follow all safety protocols for marked utilities according to work orders or emergencies. Will need to be able to work periodic rotating shifts to nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies.

Assists other crews as assigned, including all divisions, and performs all other duties as assigned. Additional duties may be assigned that are related to the technician’s specialties.

Special Requirements

Valid commercial driver's license with Class B endorsement in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or the ability to obtain within one year of hire. The VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Certification and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Pesticide Registered Applicator Certification are to be acquired within two years of hire.

Miscellaneous Information

This work requires frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force. Work regularly requires the ability to use the application of hand tools, reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking, pushing, or pulling, and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, lifting, and repetitive motions. Work requirements include effective communication; standard or corrective vision and hearing; operating machines, motor vehicles, or equipment; and observing general surroundings and activities.

Duties regularly require exposure to wet humid conditions (non-weather), outdoor to climate-controlled environments, including heavy traffic with above-average noise exposure, working near moving mechanical parts, in confined spaces, and in high, precarious places. Some duties may include exposure to fumes or airborne particles, bloodborne pathogens, toxic or caustic chemicals, potential risk of electrical shock, and exposure to vibration. Application of wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and all personal protective equipment (PPE) to comply with OSHA regulations and Town safety policies are necessary.

Hepatitis B vaccines will be required. The Town of Woodstock prioritizes the safety of employees first. All PPE will be provided to include training for the above outlined.
