You teach private, one-on-one swim lessons at client-owned pools as an independent contractor. You choose which bookings you accept. You set which days and times you make available.
About Aquastar
Operating since 2017, Aquastar serves more than 600 families and organizations each year. We run a mobile private lesson model, so you travel to the client rather than working from one facility. Our contractor network covers Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond, Coquitlam, Langley, Abbotsford, Maple Ridge, Kelowna, and Vancouver Island. How the earnings work
- Sessions are booked as 30 minute or 60 minute lessons. You earn per session, not per shift.
- A 30 minute session starts at $18. Hourly equivalent is $36 .
- Rates rise with your tier. Tiers advance based on lessons delivered through the platform and instruction experience. Senior tier contractors earn up to $80 per hour of instruction.
- Every contractor starts at the same entry rate. The schedule is published, so you know exactly what moves you up.
- Travel is compensated on qualifying distances.
What the work involves
- Deliver private swim lessons to children, adults, and seniors at client pools.
- Adapt instruction to each student's ability, comfort in water, and goals.
- Teach water safety and age appropriate stroke technique.
- Submit a lesson report after each session.
- Communicate directly and professionally with clients and Aquastar coordinators.
- Bring your own instruction equipment.
What you need
- Swim instruction certification. Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor is the current BC standard. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and comparable instructor ratings are accepted.
- Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
- Six months of swim instruction experience minimum. Paid and structured volunteer instruction count equally.
- Reliable transportation to client pool locations.
Assets, not requirements
- National Lifeguard certification.
- Experience with autistic swimmers or swimmers with disabilities.
- Adult and senior instruction experience.
- Criminal record check.
If your certification is in progress, apply anyway and tell us your completion date.
Contractor terms
You engage with Aquastar as an independent contractor, not an employee. You are responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and business registration. You decide which bookings you take and which you decline. All bookings and payments run through the Aquastar platform.
