Key Accountabilities:
- Lead end-to-end Oracle DBA operations, technical delivery and L2/L3 support for Oracle databases in the BC Hydro database management scope.
- Administer Oracle databases including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, cloning, refreshes, database startup/shutdown, storage planning and capacity management.
- Manage and support Oracle high availability and disaster recovery technologies including RAC, Data Guard, ASM, Grid Infrastructure and standby database environments as applicable.
- Plan, validate and support backup and recovery operations using RMAN and related enterprise backup tools, including recovery testing and DR exercise support.
- Monitor database health, availability, performance, space, jobs, alerts and logs using Oracle Enterprise Manager or equivalent monitoring platforms.
- Analyze and tune Oracle database performance using AWR, ASH, explain plans, indexing strategy, SQL tuning, statistics, wait events and resource utilization reports.
- Support security, access management, user/role administration, audit requirements, vulnerability remediation, encryption and compliance controls for Oracle databases.
- Troubleshoot production incidents such as database availability issues, backup failures, archive log issues, storage/disk growth, batch job failures, application connectivity issues and authentication problems.
- Coordinate with application teams, infrastructure teams, backup teams, Unix/Linux administrators, security teams, vendors and customer stakeholders for incident and change resolution.
- Lead technical reviews, guide DBA team members, perform peer reviews, support task allocation and ensure adherence to standards, SOPs and SLA commitments.
- Participate in incident, problem, service request, change, release and knowledge management processes using client-approved service management tools.
- Prepare and maintain runbooks, SOPs, architecture notes, implementation plans, deployment steps, DR test evidence, RCA documents, release notes and knowledge articles
Experience Required
- Good communication skills with ability to work with customer stakeholders, application owners, infrastructure teams, security teams, DBAs and delivery leadership.
- Minimum 10-15 years of IT experience with strong hands-on Oracle DBA experience in production support and enterprise database administration.
- Solid experience with Oracle Database 11g/12c/19c or later, Oracle RAC, Data Guard, ASM, Grid Infrastructure, RMAN and Oracle Enterprise Manager.
- Experience in Oracle database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migrations, cloning, refreshes, backup/recovery and performance tuning.
- Experience in Unix/Linux environments including shell scripting, log analysis, filesystem checks, process monitoring and database deployment support.
- Experience supporting mission-critical databases with high availability, disaster recovery, monitoring and 24x7 production support practices.
- Experience with SQL and PL/SQL troubleshooting, AWR/ASH analysis, execution plans, index tuning, wait events and database resource management.
- Experience with database security, access controls, auditing, vulnerability remediation and compliance-driven operational controls is preferred.
- Experience with backup tools such as RMAN and enterprise backup platforms such as CommVault is preferred.
- Experience in utility, regulated infrastructure, NERC CIP-adjacent systems, SaaS/cloud readiness or managed services environments is preferred.
- Ability to lead a technical DBA team, guide junior resources, review deliverables and deliver tasks as per agreed SLAs and timelines.
Technical Skills
- Oracle Database Administration: Oracle 11g/12c/19c or later, database installation, configuration, upgrade, patching, cloning and refresh.
- Oracle RAC, Data Guard, ASM, Grid Infrastructure, standby databases, high availability and disaster recovery support.
- RMAN backup and recovery, archive log management, backup validation, restore/recovery testing and DR exercise support.
- Oracle Enterprise Manager, AWR, ASH, SQL tuning, explain plans, wait event analysis, space/capacity monitoring and performance tuning.
- Unix/Linux administration for DBA support, shell scripting, log analysis, filesystem/storage checks and deployment support.
- SQL, PL/SQL, database objects, grants, roles, profiles, schema management and application connectivity troubleshooting.
- Database security, auditing, access management, encryption awareness, vulnerability remediation and compliance support.
- Oracle Exadata, GoldenGate, OEM Fleet Maintenance, Oracle Cloud/OCI database services or automation experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes, incident/problem/change/release management and service management tools such as ServiceNow/Jira/BMC Remedy.
- Managed services operations, SLA reporting, RCA documentation, runbooks, SOPs, audit evidence and knowledge management.
