Role Summary

With the guidance of the Technical Project Lead, the Technical Writer-Illustrator is responsible for creating and updating technical publications for our international clients in both the civil and defense sectors. While striving to meet defined end-customer requirements and international industry standards, the Technical Writer-Illustrator will also ensure that technical publications are accurate and reflect the engineering design of the product.

The Technical





Writer-Illustrator will contribute to the maintenance of the product’s configuration through analysis of updates to engineering data such as Bill of Materials (BOM), 3D models, etc. Following completion of these analyses, the Technical Writer-Illustrator will incorporate the results in the HICO iPS.Suite® through creation or updating of operation and maintenance procedures, including relevant illustrations.

What You’ll Do | Primary Responsibilities and Functions The Technical Writer-Illustrator will:

- With the support of the Technical Project Lead - plan, execute and validate activities to create and/or update procedures and illustrations with the objective of delivering Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETP) that accurately reflect the engineering design of the product and comply with international and end-customer requirements.
- Effectively use the HICO iPS.Suite® as part of IPS program delivery.
- Review client specifications and requirements, analyze and evaluate product configurations, and support development of program-specific IPS work packages and product-specific technical publications.
- Actively engage with other program stakeholders to ensure IPS requirements are communicated clearly and timely execution of technical publications activities, in line with the program plan.
- Support the proposals and business development areas with upfront analyses, as directed by the Managing Director of HICO Canada.




- Actively monitor industry standards for IPS and ILS and maintain a working knowledge of all active standards (e.g. S-series IPS Specifications (S1000D, etc.), ATA e-Business program (e.g. ATA iSpec2200), Canadian Forces Technical Orders (CFTOs), etc.
- Support the creation of technical authoring and illustrating procedures and work instructions and development or enhancement of HICO’s IPS software and tools.

What You Bring | Experience and Competencies

- Experience in (or interest in learning) technical writing and/or illustration (2D/3D).
- Knowledge of internal or national technical authoring and/or illustration specifications is an advantage.
- Experience in interpreting and analyzing engineering drawings, schematics, flow diagrams, bills of materials and specification sheets for electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Understanding of Integrated Product Support (IPS) or Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) is an asset.
- Capable of identifying discrepancies in large data sets.

Preferred Qualifications / Skills

- College (DEC) diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a technical, engineering, graphic, or linguistic field of study
- Detail-oriented and strong analytical skills with a keen eye for data accuracy and integrity.
- Very positive written and verbal communication in English. Multilingual is an advantage, especially German.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional and international teams.
- Willingness to travel within Canada and/or internationally (up to 10%).
- Must pass a background check and be able to obtain Canadian security clearance (Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required).
