The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority is seeking a Territorial Nurse Practitioner – Mental Health and Substance Use to join the Territorial Mental Health and Community Wellness team in Yellowknife.

About the Role

Reporting to the Territorial Manager, Mental Health and Substance Use Nursing, you'll provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management for individuals experiencing mental health and substance use concerns. You'll play a key role in the Medical Detox Service, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the territory, and provide clinical leadership that supports health promotion, recovery, harm reduction, and continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide comprehensive mental health and substance use assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care for individuals across the lifespan
- Lead intake, assessment,



and coordination for the Medical Detox Service while developing treatment plans and coordinating ongoing care
- Prescribe medications and provide therapeutic interventions within the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, counsellors, Indigenous partners, and community organizations to coordinate client care
- Promote culturally safe, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and harm reduction approaches to care
- Provide clinical leadership through education, mentorship, quality improvement, and program development initiatives

Qualifications Required Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

- A Master's degree in Nursing
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
- Two (2) years of mental health nursing experience is preferred
- Post-master's certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is preferred. Financial and institutional support may be available for candidates interested in pursuing PMHNP-BC certification.
- Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN). Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
