Tooling Engineer
Location: Scarborough, ON

Salary: $80,000 – $110,000 per year

Reports To: Engineering Manager
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Tooling Engineer to join our Engineering team in Scarborough, ON. The successful candidate will be responsible for new mold conception, developing design standards, and establishing appropriate steel sizes to support the production of statistically capable parts while meeting customer requirements.
This role requires strong technical knowledge of plastics, mechanics, tooling design, and CAD, along with the ability to translate customer dimensional data into detailed solid models and manufacturing-ready documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new mold concepts and establish appropriate design standards and steel sizes.
- Use knowledge of plastics and mechanics, combined with creative problem-solving skills, to create detailed mathematical models and tool drawings.
- Develop supporting documentation based on customer information and requirements.
- Translate dimensional layout data into a solid model environment.
- Provide clear and effective technical information to the manufacturing team.
- Maintain proper file handling and storage in accordance with company standards.
- Prepare clear, precise, and accurate technical documentation.
- Follow established drawing control and release practices.
- Drive assigned projects and tasks through to a sound and successful conclusion.
- Work independently while managing short lead times and competing priorities.
- Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing activities.
- Maintain effective communication with engineering, manufacturing, and other internal teams.
- Follow all company quality, safety, environmental, and operational policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mold Makers Certificate .
- Proven experience with CAD and tooling/mold design .
- Basic skills in solid modeling .
- Knowledge of plastics and mechanical principles.
- Strong understanding of technical drawings and dimensional layouts.
- Excellent organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure, particularly with short lead times.
- Ability to manage projects or assigned tasks through to completion.
- Experience or understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Project .
Preferred / Additional Technical Knowledge Experience or knowledge in the following areas would be an asset:
- GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- IQMS
- QS and TS Standards
- Mold Flow
- Advanced SolidWorks
- Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
- FMEA
- Basic injection molding theory

This includes following required PPE and WHMIS practices, reporting hazards and quality issues, maintaining proper housekeeping, and contributing to production efficiency and continuous improvement.
