Volunteer and Events Coordinator The Kitchener Waterloo Skating Club (KWSC) is located in the twin cities of Kitchener Waterloo, with our home facility at the Carolyn Fedy Skating Centre, RIM Park. With over 4,000 members, KWSC is Canada's largest skating club. KWSC delivers a wide range of skating and athletic development programs, including figure skating, CanSkate, Twin City Hockey Skating School Power Skating, and high-performance training through The Athletic Centre and The Rotation Room.
The club also operates seasonal programs such as summer and March Break camps, and hosts numerous events throughout the year including Freeskate Festival, Simulation Days, Ice Show, Skate Ontario competitions, awards events, seminars, and athlete development initiatives. KWSC serves athletes, families, coaches, officials, and volunteers within a large, engaged community and is recognized for its positive culture and commitment to excellence.
Job Summary The Volunteer and Events Coordinator is responsible for supporting volunteer engagement and event delivery across the club
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and support approximately 300 volunteers annually across all club programs and events.
- Lead volunteer recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, communications, retention, and recognition initiatives.
- Provide guidance and support to volunteer leads and committee chairs.
- Develop and manage project plans for events, figure skating competitions, and special initiatives.
- Plan and coordinate event logistics and volunteer requirements across multiple programs.
- Collect and document post-event feedback to evaluate outcomes and improve future event processes.
- Collaborate with KWSC staff, the City of Waterloo, and external partners to support operational needs.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, data tracking, and reporting using Bloomerang data base.
- Support membership administration and scheduling processes using the Uplifter data base.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience coordinating volunteers, events, or community-based programs
- Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
- Self-motivated and resourceful with a positive and helpful attitude
- Strong computer skills, including experience with CRM software, Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and Canva
- Comfort using digital systems and learning new platforms
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Administrative experience required
- Post-secondary education is an asset
- Familiarity with skating (figure skating and/or hockey) is required
Job Type: Part-time Location: Rim Park, Waterloo Ontario.
Hours of Work:
Approximately 20-25 hours per week, hybrid plus evenings and weekends as required
