Window & Door Installer – Job DescriptionPosition Summary
We are seeking a reliable, skilled, and safety-conscious Window & Door Installer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the removal, installation, replacement, and finishing of residential and/or commercial windows and doors while maintaining high standards of workmanship, customer service, and job-site safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, replace, and service windows, exterior doors, patio doors, and related products.
- Remove existing windows and doors while minimizing damage to surrounding finishes.
- Measure and prepare openings to ensure proper fit and installation.
- Level, square, shim, fasten, insulate, and seal windows and doors according to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
- Apply caulking, flashing, insulation, trim, and other weatherproofing materials.
- Install interior and exterior finishing materials as required.
- Diagnose and correct installation or operational issues.
- Load, unload, transport, and safely handle windows, doors, tools, and materials.
- Protect customers' property and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Remove installation debris and properly dispose of old materials.
- Perform final inspections and ensure windows and doors operate correctly before leaving the job site.
- Communicate professionally with customers, supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and other trades.
- Complete job sheets, measurements, service reports, and other required documentation.
- Follow company policies, installation procedures, manufacturer instructions, and applicable building requirements.
- Follow all occupational health and safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Inspect tools and equipment before use and report damaged or unsafe equipment.
- Safely use ladders, scaffolding, power tools, hand tools, and other installation equipment.
- Identify and report job-site hazards, product damage, incorrect measurements,
or other concerns to the supervisor.
- Assist other installers and crew members as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous window, door, construction, renovation, glazing, an d carpentry experience is a must.
- Experience installing residential and/or commercial windows and doors is an asset.
- Ability to accurately use a tape measure and basic construction calculations.
- Knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Basic understanding of building construction, weatherproofing, insulation, flashing, and finishing techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to troubleshoot installation problems.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation may be required.
- Working at Heights, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, or other safety certifications are considered assets or may be required depending on the position.
Physical Requirements The position involves physically demanding construction work. Employees must be able to:
- Regularly lift, carry, maneuver, and position windows, doors, glass, tools, and construction materials.
- Work with another employee when products or materials require team lifting.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull throughout the workday.
- Safely climb and work from ladders or other approved access equipment.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Work around construction dust, noise, debris,
and other normal job-site conditions.
- Wear required PPE and safely perform the essential physical duties of the position.
Safety Responsibilities All Window & Door Installers are expected to make workplace safety a priority. Employees must:
- Follow applicable occupational health and safety legislation and company safety policies.
- Attend required safety training, orientations, and toolbox talks.
- Wear and maintain required PPE.
- Use tools, ladders, equipment, and materials only as trained and intended.
- Report hazards, incidents, injuries, near misses, defective equipment, and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Refuse unsafe work where permitted or required by applicable legislation.
- Maintain safe housekeeping practices at all job sites.
- Take reasonable precautions to protect coworkers, customers, members of the public, and property.
Work Environment Work is performed at residential, commercial, renovation, and/or construction sites. Travel between job sites may be required. Start and finish times may vary depending on project requirements, weather, travel, and customer schedules.
