Team Manager – Data Engineering

The Staples technology team is seeking a talented and energetic Team Manager to lead our Data Engineering team. Responsibilities

Specifically, you will...

- Manage and develop associates (40%) – develop, mentor, evaluate performance, recruit, address performance concerns with HR, manage 3rd‑party vendors and consultants, offer expertise, collaborate on technology solutions, maintain current applications, and work within an agile environment.
- Manage the area’s work (60%) – complete business objectives, ensure on‑schedule delivery on budget, delegate work, elevate issues to the Director, communicate updates to VP IS and the Executive Team, collaborate with peers, update processes, develop improvements, and implement, stabilize, maintain, upgrade and enhance applications.

Qualifications

- Degree in Computer Science or relevant work experience.
- Leadership experience: 3+ years managing data engineering teams in a fast‑paced, growth environment.
- Technical expertise: 6+ years implementing data warehouse architecture,



designing pipelines, ETL processes, and data platforms (Microsoft SQL Server).
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, streaming data platforms, and frameworks.
- Experience designing and developing DB systems (diagrams, views, TSQL, functions, replication, migration, reporting).
- Knowledge of Power BI and Looker for visualization and reporting.
- Strategic thinking & execution: define long‑term strategy while handling day‑to‑day operations.
- Collaborative leadership with strong communication across data science, analytics, product, and business stakeholders.
- High proficiency in Google Cloud Platform (GCS, BigQuery, Dataproc, Cloud Data Fusion).
