What you'll do
- Design, implement, and maintain robust database systems that support the organization's applications and data requirements.
- Monitor database performance and conduct regular health checks to identify and resolve issues proactively.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries to enhance application performance and ensure efficient data retrieval.
- Implement backup and recovery strategies to safeguard data integrity and availability, minimizing downtime in case of failures.
- Collaborate with software developers to design database schemas that align with application needs and business objectives.
- Conduct routine database maintenance tasks, including indexing, partitioning, and archiving, to ensure optimal performance.
- Establish and enforce database security protocols to protect sensitive information and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues, assisting users and other IT staff as needed.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices in database management, recommending improvements and innovations.
- Document database configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and continuity within the team.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure business continuity in the event of a data loss incident.
- Assist in capacity planning and scaling of database resources to accommodate growth and changing business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in database administration, preferably with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.
- Solid understanding of database design principles, normalization, and data modeling techniques.
- Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL queries for performance and efficiency.
- Experience with database backup and recovery strategies, as well as disaster recovery planning.
- Familiarity with database security best practices and tools to protect sensitive data.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues effectively.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
- Experience with database monitoring tools and performance tuning techniques.
Nice to have
- Certification in database management systems (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator).
