What you'll do
- Supervise and manage the finance team, providing guidance and support to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to senior management.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to support strategic decision-making, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with various departments to prepare budgets and monitor financial performance against established targets.
- Ensure the integrity of financial data by implementing robust internal controls and conducting regular audits.
- Manage cash flow and working capital,
optimizing the organization's financial resources to support growth initiatives.
- Liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies, facilitating audits and ensuring compliance with all financial regulations.
- Provide training and mentorship to finance staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management, highlighting key financial metrics and insights.
- Assist in the development of long-term financial strategies, aligning financial goals with the overall objectives of the organization.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in financial regulations, ensuring the organization remains compliant and competitive.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; a Master's degree or skilled certification (CPA, CMA, etc.) is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in finance or accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and regulations, including GAAP and IFRS.
- Proficient in financial software and tools, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills,
with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a quick-paced environment.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling is essential.
Nice to have
- Experience in the non-profit or public sector finance is a plus.
- Familiarity with financial regulations specific to the Ottawa region or Canada.
- Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
- Previous experience with financial audits and working with external auditors.
- Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
