The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic.The position is based in downtown Toronto, Ontario.Telecommunications Solution Architect and Integration Manager responsible for the design of end-to-end communication solutions across onboard, station, wayside and control-centre environments. The scope includes PA, PIS/PVIS, APIS, ACEDIS, CCTV, IP networks, radio, telephony, intercom, access control, passenger counting, master clock and associated management and control systems.Key responsibilitiesRequirements analysis, solution architecture, system design, technical compliance and coordination with customers, operators, engineering teams, suppliers, subcontractors and other project stakeholders. Leading interface management activities across communication subsystems and external systems, including the identification, definition and documentation of functional, physical, electrical, network and software interfaces. This includes protocols, data flows, IP addressing, timing and synchronization, cybersecurity requirements, interface ownership, responsibility allocation and the preparation and maintenance of Interface Control Documents. The role also ensures design consistency, technical alignment and integration readiness across onboard, station, wayside and control‐centre domains,
supporting the resolution of interface issues and technical design decisions. The scope may be extended in the future to include system integration and commissioning support.AccountabilitiesPlan and execute design, configuration, test and commissioning activitiesFamiliar with SOWs either subcontracted or delivered in house in a leadership or contributor capacityIdentify, analyze and manage requirementsIdentify and resolve interfaces internal and external to the Telecommunication System (e.G. Signaling, Rolling Stock, etc.)Architect and integrate medium-complex telecommunications systems with particular attention to Networking and Radio technologiesPrepare Conceptual, Preliminary, Detailed and Installation Design for each Telecoms subsystemParticipate in products selectionCreate Bill of Materials and support Purchasing Department to order equipment in particular for the Wired and Wireless telecommunications networksComfortable with medium to large size projectsRequired Skills and Experience8-10 years of experience in Telecom engineeringKnowledge of principles, practices, methods, terminology and trends in communications engineering including the fields of radio frequency allocations, electromagnetic wave propagation, and radio frequency field strength measurements and tolerances.Knowledge of fiber optics, computers, digital communications processors, servers, programming, applications, software, and hardware related to radio communications.Exposure to Passenger Information Systems technologies.Extensive working knowledge of Complex Networks design, both wired and wirelessExtensive experience with network architecture designWorking Knowledge of network design patterns,
constraints and protocols (CCNP or equivalent certification required)Working knowledge of Switching and Routing protocolsWorking knowledge of wireless communications in demanding scenariosPrior Experience with RAMS deliverablePrior experience managing small-medium sized projects and project teamsExcellent ability to use sophisticated test equipment including multi-meters, oscilloscopes and a spectrum analyzer.Working knowledge of Test and commissioning processesSkilled in handling electric, electronic, and mechanical drawings and schematicsDetail oriented with excellent organizational skillsExcellent written and oral communications skills and ability to communicate complex technical informationEducation / QualificationsKnowledge of telecommunications systems for the railway industryElectrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering or Information Technology Qualifications/ University Degree > Ontario P.Eng highly desirable.2 to 5 years of Railway System Engineering expertiseClear Criminal Background Check requiredSalary RangeCAD $ 119,900 to CAD$ 179,800. The current applicable Base Salary Pay Range for this role is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
