What you'll do
- Design and execute comprehensive internal communication strategies that align with Mitacs' mission and values, ensuring that all employees are informed and engaged.
- Collaborate with various departments to gather and disseminate important information, updates, and initiatives that impact the workforce.
- Create compelling content for internal newsletters, intranet updates, and other communication channels to keep employees informed and motivated.
- Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives that encourage participation and feedback, fostering a sense of community within the organization.
- Organize and facilitate internal events, workshops, and town halls that promote open dialogue and collaboration among employees.
- Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of internal communication efforts, utilizing metrics and feedback to continuously improve strategies.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on communication best practices,
providing guidance on messaging and employee engagement strategies.
- Manage relationships with external vendors and consultants as needed to enhance internal communication efforts.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in internal communications and employee engagement to ensure Mitacs remains a leader in this space.
- Foster a culture of transparency and inclusivity by encouraging two‑way communication between employees and management.
- Support the onboarding process for current employees by developing orientation materials that effectively communicate the company culture and values.
- Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives within the organization, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or a similar role.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful internal communication strategies.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Experience with communication tools and platforms, including intranet systems,
email marketing, and social media.
- Ability to analyze data and metrics to inform decision‑making and improve communication strategies.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- A proactive and innovative mindset, with a passion for fostering employee engagement and a positive workplace culture.
Nice to have
- Experience in the non‑profit sector or within organizations focused on research and innovation.
- Familiarity with graphic design tools and software for creating visually engaging communication materials.
- Knowledge of change management principles and practices.
- Certification in communications or public relations (e.g., APR, ABC).
- Experience with event planning and coordination.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and communication tools such as Slack, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and intranet platforms.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in using data analytics tools to measure communication effectiveness.
- Knowledge of graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
