Clinical Service Contract

The Squamish General Hospital Emergency Department (SGH ED) is seeking dedicated physicians to join our team. These positions include a mix of weekend, daytime, and night shifts, with opportunities for additional shifts. The ED serves a population of approximately 24,000 and operates a 13‑bed emergency department. The emergency physician also provides cross‑coverage for the acute medical inpatient unit and an adjoining long‑term care facility for urgent issues.

• Provide emergency care to an average of 20,000 visits per year within a 13‑bed rural trauma centre.


• Perform single‑coverage physician shifts in the ED and provide cross‑coverage for the inpatient unit and adjacent long‑term care facility.


• Utilize on‑site laboratory, CT scanning, X‑ray, and ultrasound services and coordinate specialist consultation at Lions Gate Hospital.

• Licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.


• Holder of the Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP) certification.


• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) – Desired.


• Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory.


• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) – Eligible.


• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PAL) – Mandatory.

Preferred: Candidates who have completed Emergency Medicine training such as CCFP‑EM, FRCPC Emergency Medicine, or Nanaimo Emergency Education Program, and who have more than five years of rural emergency medicine experience. Preference will also be given to candidates residing in the Squamish area.
