Position Summary
The Physiotherapist provides assessment and treatment across acute care areas and fulfills the role of Stroke Outreach PT, including consultative assessments in the Stroke Prevention Clinic and the TIA and Minor Stroke Unit. The position supports stroke education and participates in initiatives to optimize care across the Toronto Stroke Network.
As an integral member of the Allied Health department, the Physiotherapist (PT) provides evidence-based and patient-centred assessment and treatment of acute care adult inpatients with acute neurovascular conditions, primarily stroke.The successful candidate will work with a collaborative interprofessional team, participate in rounds,



meetings and quality initiatives, and assist with coverage across other clinical service areas as necessary. PT services are coordinated to provide a seven day a week service to our patients, with all team members participating in a rotational service model. The successful candidate will also fill the role of Stroke Outreach PT. In this capacity, they will provide consultative assessment in the Stroke Prevention Clinic and TIA and Minor Stroke Unit, as well as support stroke education and participate in initiative development to optimize care for persons with stroke across the Toronto Stroke Network.
Duties
The candidate will perform all other duties as required
The successful candidate will also fill the role of Stroke Outreach PT
Provide consultative assessment in the Stroke Prevention Clinic and TIA and Minor Stroke Unit, as well as support stroke education and participate in initiative development to optimize care for persons with stroke across the Toronto Stroke Network
Support the development and implementation of best practice models of physiotherapistin the acute care setting at TWH
In collaboration with other members of the physiotherapistinpatient team,they will provide assessment and treatment for patients across the hospital; as required
Participate in the clinical education of occupational therapy students
Participate in Allied Health meetings and quality initiatives
Perform other functions consistent with the job classification, as required
Qualifications Masters of Science degree in Physiotherapy, or equivalent based on Registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
Membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association preferred




Experience in the assessment and treatment of critical care, acute surgical and general medicine patients experience required
Previous experience in an acute care Hospital environment; preferred
Experience working with Neurovascular patients, stroke best practice, and current stroke care initiatives
Oxygen titration and suctioning experience and rostering of skills
Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
Complies with the legislation outlined in the Regulated Health Professions Act, (1991) and the Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association
Recognitizes and acts within the scope and limitations of the physiotherapists role
Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job
