Lead engaging hiking programs with the Parks, Recreation and Culture Department in Burnaby. This contract role focuses on creating a safe, welcoming hiking experience for participants of all ages.
As an Outdoor Recreation Hiking Instructor, you will ensure high-quality instruction and participant safety. Your key responsibilities include planning hikes, managing participants, and assessing trail safety while providing a positive experience for everyone. Strong communication and customer service skills are crucial for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and lead protected hiking programs for diverse participants
• Manage participant safety throughout hiking activities
• Assess trail conditions and site safety regularly
• Prepare required program materials for each outing
• Complete attendance and incident reporting
Requirements:
• Post-secondary education in outdoor recreation or related field
• Minimum one year of relevant experience preferred
• Valid Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C certification
• Class 5 Driver’s Licence preferred; Class 4 highly preferred
• Knowledge of hiking practices and outdoor safety essential
