Business Unit Accountant
INTRODUCTION
We’re looking for a talented, dependable, and enthusiastic person with the ability to work independently and be an integral part of our growing business in digital advertising technology. As the Business Unit Accountant, you’ll be responsible for handling finance and accounting functions including accounts payable, expenses, disbursements, accounting, reporting, audit support, and other finance related responsibilities. Working collaboratively with the finance and accounting resources across the organization, and reporting to the Finance Director, this is an exciting opportunity to play an integral role in a growing company!

RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting, Planning & Analysis
Produces precise monthly, quarterly, and annual internal financial reports and consolidates data for combined financial statements
Is accountable to the Know Company Controller (or acting Know Company Controllor) for the quality, timeliness, and adherence to company standards for all inputs in the financial system of record
Compiles and analyzes monthly internal metric reports, demonstrating expertise in company metrics
Assists with the preparation of annual operating budgets and subsequent forecasts in collaboration with executive teams
Conducts monthly financial and cash forecasting, maintains annual forecasts, and ensures compliance forecasting for banking needs
Analyzes planned financial performance against actual results, identifying and investigating discrepancies to improve future performance
Provides ad hoc reporting, analysis, and support for board, bank, executive, and business development needs
Accounts Payable & Expense Management
Responds to incoming payables, purchasing, and administration correspondences and resolves issues
Codes invoices and payments timely and accurately in a variety of platforms
Manages vendor onboarding, due diligence, and change request processes
Prepares and processes vendor invoices, disbursements, payment/remittance advice, and accounts payable batch payments
Reviews and verifies recurring and non-recurring disbursement transactions, corporate credit card expenses, and employee expense reports for validity and accuracy
Identifies and escalates any accounts payable, disbursement, or administrative issues
Accounts Receivable & Billing
Reviews monthly sales tracking sheets, verifies accuracy of recorded sales, and confirms details with relevant teams prior to invoicing
Generates client invoices based on approved sales data and ensures alignment with contracts, rates, and billing schedules
Processes AR receipts and proactively upkeeps external and internal AR accounts to ensure timely disbursement of fees
Audit, Compliance & Treasury
Supports the management of external financial assurance, coordinating and completing quarterly reviews and annual audits in cooperation with the Know Company finance team
Oversees regulatory reporting for the Business Unit, tax planning (including SRED), compliance, and filing requirements in cooperation with Know Company finance team
Completes monthly and quarterly bank reporting,
including filing bank margin reports if applicable
Routinely reviews, develops, and implements accounting practices and internal control procedures to mitigate financial and fraud risk
General Accounting, Payroll & Operations
Manages day-to-day accounting and finance processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and year-end working papers
Works with Payroll to prepare, manage and process payroll and staff-related disbursements or supports the centralized comparable function
Contributes to the continued development of new and existing department processes and policies
Files and maintains a well-organized system for finance and administration related documents, physically and electronically in accordance with with Know Company corporate standards
Leadership & General Administration
Provides leadership, supervision, and mentorship to the Finance & Administration team when called upon (initially there are no supervisory duties required)
Liaises with appropriate external parties, including customers, vendors, financial institutions, and strategic partners as directed
Manages all duties professionally and accurately in a timely manner, meeting critical deadlines
QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications, but for the right candidate, we are willing to create a development plan to help you bridge between your existing and required skills.
Professional accounting/finance designation (CPA)
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field
2-3 years of experience in an accounting role
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and familiarity with CRM and accounting software (particularly Sage Intacct)
High level of professionalism, high level of duty of care with handling strict confidential information
Understanding of GAAP and/or ASPE accounting concepts and principles
