What is the opportunity?
This is an opportunity to work at RBC Insurance Active Data Platform team with a group of technology specialists dedicated to deliver solution to Insurance business and clients. We are all in with Agile development, DevOps, Open Source, Software as a Service (SaaS) and modern tools and processes. You will have an opportunity to make a real difference by working on some impactful and meaningful projects.
We are seeking a hands-on technical leader responsible for the design and technical implementation of our Cloud Data Lakehouse platform using Snowflake, leveraging the RBC Lumina Snowflake offering. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of data engineers, working closely with business stakeholders, and collaborating with architects to make technical decisions that drive business growth. You will design, develop, and maintain big-scale data Lakehouse and data pipelines on Snowflake, ensuring data quality, security, and scalability. This role will focus on the application-level design and implementation, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems, and providing technical leadership to the development team.

We deliver digitally enabled applications that are both internal and internet facing. We build cloud data lakehouse, stable web, and back-end applications which are resilient, scalable and high-performance that avoids failure and focused on delivering best client experience. We continuously update our tech skills and upgrade our platforms to match industry standards.
What will you do? Technical Leadership: collaborate with the Agile Data Transformation Program to design, develop and implement data strategies that align with business objectives.
Business Stakeholder Management: build strong relationships, communicate technical concepts and solutions to business stakeholders, providing solutions that meet their requirements.
Data Engineering: design, develop, and maintain big-scale data warehouses and pipelines on Snowflake, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost-effectiveness.
Lead the design and development of scalable and robust data ingestion, transformation pipelines and consumption/analytics using tools like dbt, Python/Snowpark and Snowflake-native features (Cortex AI, Snowpipe, Tasks, Streams).
Proactively monitor and tune the performance of Snowflake workloads, including query optimization, Virtual Warehouse sizing, clustering, and micro-partitioning strategies to manage cost and efficiency.
Working with the Data Architect to implement data quality frameworks,



ensuring data integrity and consistency throughout the entire data lifecycle.
Understand modern data management framework, contributes to a comprehensive Medallion data model architecture, including bronze, silver, and gold layers, to ensure data quality and consistency.
Manage and automate the deployment of Snowflake objects.
Lead in SRE setup to support end-to-end application in production. Ready to provide after hour support as required.
Partner with the solution architect to translate high-level designs into concrete implementation plans and collaborate with data analysts and data scientists to understand the needs.
Identify potential new and innovative technologies which could benefit RBC Insurance and build, test and assess feasibility for current or future use;
Ability to determine alternative methods and processes to best support RBC Insurance Application and Data needs;
What do you need to succeed? Must Have Strong understanding of business operations and data-driven decision-making
5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on Snowflake Cloud Data Lakehouse Platform. Deep, hands-on experience with all aspects of Snowflake platform, including architecture, SQL, SnowSQL, Tasks, Streams, Stages, and performance tuning features
Strong proficiency in Python, with experience in libraries like Pandas and a solid understanding of object-oriented programming. Experience with Snowpark is a major plus
Strong understanding of cloud concepts on cloud-based data platforms (Snowflake, AWS, Azure, or GCP), especially regarding storages and security.
Proven experience in leading and managing high-performing team
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop creative solutions
Experience on multiple projects with multiple interfaces and/or third parties. Successfully and simultaneously managed multiple projects with emphasis on High Impact, High Business Risk, Uncertain Business Requirements and New Technology
Nice to Have Certifications: Snowflake certifications (e.g. Snowflake Certified Data Engineer)
Knowledge of data engineering tools, familiar with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. AWS,



Azure, GCP)
Experience with machine learning, artificial intelligence, or other emerging technologies
Adaptability, Critical thinking and growing mindset
