Vertexca is seeking dedicated Class 1 Operators to join our dynamic team in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This full-time position offers a rotational schedule of 24 days on followed by 16 days off, allowing for a balanced work-life dynamic.

What you’ll do
- Operate Class 1 vehicles safely and efficiently in various weather conditions, adhering to all safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in optimal working condition and report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Transport materials and equipment to designated locations, ensuring timely delivery while maintaining compliance with all transportation laws.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to coordinate logistics and optimize routes for efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, and fuel consumption, ensuring all documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in loading and unloading materials, ensuring proper handling and securing of cargo to prevent damage during transport.
- Respond to any emergencies or incidents on the road, following established protocols to ensure safety and minimize disruption.
- Provide exceptional customer service when interacting with clients and stakeholders, representing Vertexca in a professional manner.
- Stay informed about changes in transportation regulations and industry standards to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
- Utilize GPS and other navigation tools to plan efficient routes and avoid delays.
- Support the maintenance team by reporting any vehicle issues and assisting with minor repairs when necessary.
Requirements
- Valid Class 1 driver’s license with a clean driving record and no major violations.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating Class 1 vehicles in a professional capacity.
- Strong understanding of transportation regulations and safety practices.
- Ability to work in a rotational schedule of 24 days on and 16 days off.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with team members and clients.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Physical fitness to handle the demands of loading and unloading materials as required.
- Familiarity with GPS systems and other navigation tools.
Nice to have
- Experience in the oil and gas industry or similar sectors.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair processes.
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
- Additional certifications related to transportation or safety.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in the use of GPS and navigation software.
- Strong organizational skills for managing routes and schedules.
- Ability to utilize electronic logging devices (ELDs) for tracking hours of service.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and compliance documentation.
- Competence in basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
