PNL Recruitment

British Columbia

About the Opportunity We have been exclusively retained to partner with a highly respected and growing North American organization headquartered in beautiful Vernon, British Columbia, to recruit a Senior Tax Advisor.
Let's be honest. There are plenty of tax jobs out there.
Very few offer the opportunity to work across both Canadian and U.S. taxation while helping shape the future of a company entering an exciting new phase of growth.
This is a newly created position . Not because someone left. Because the business is growing.
As our client continues to expand its operations throughout Canada and the United States, the organization is investing in additional tax expertise to support increasingly sophisticated tax planning, compliance, reporting and strategic initiatives.
If you're looking for a role where your technical expertise will genuinely influence the business - not simply prepare returns - you'll want to keep reading.
The next chapter starts now ... Headquartered in the heart of British Columbia's beautiful Okanagan Valley, the company operates across Canada and the United States and has built a reputation for quality, innovation, and long-term stability.
As the organization continues to grow, so does the complexity of its tax environment. That's where you come in. You'll become part of a collaborative finance team where tax isn't viewed as a back-office function - it's a strategic partner to the business.
This is the type of company where people build careers, not just résumés.
Why This Role Exists Growth creates opportunity.
As our client continues expanding throughout North America, the organization is strengthening its finance team by adding an experienced tax professional who can confidently navigate both Canadian and U.S. tax matters.
This isn't simply a compliance role.
You’ll work closely with senior leadership, provide meaningful tax guidance, support strategic business initiatives, and help ensure the company remains well-positioned for continued growth.
What You’ll Own You’ll play an important role across a broad range of Canadian and U.S. tax matters.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Preparing and reviewing Canadian and U.S. corporate tax returns
Supporting partnership and individual tax filings where required
Preparing MACRS depreciation calculations and related tax schedules
Managing sales tax, excise tax, rail car tax and property tax filings across multiple jurisdictions
Assisting with ASC 740 tax provisions and financial reporting
Calculating Canadian, U.S. federal,

state and provincial tax installment payments
Supporting tax audits and government inquiries
Monitoring changes in tax legislation and evaluating their impact on the business
Researching complex tax issues and providing practical recommendations
Identifying opportunities for tax savings, efficiencies and process improvements
Collaborating closely with Accounting, Finance, the Controller, CFO and executive leadership on strategic tax matters
What Success Looks Like Within your first year, you’ll have established yourself as one of the organization’s trusted tax advisors.
You’ll confidently manage complex Canadian and U.S. tax matters, improve existing processes, strengthen compliance, and provide insights that help leadership make informed business decisions.
Most importantly, you’ll play a key role in supporting a growing North American business during an exciting stage of its evolution.
About You The successful candidate will have the following:
Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline
Approximately 5-7+ years of tax experience in public practice, industry, or a combination of both
Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate taxation
Experience with or exposure to U.S. tax compliance
Experience preparing corporate tax returns and managing multi-jurisdiction tax filings
Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills
Experience with tax and accounting software
Dynamics AX or Dynamics 365 experience is considered an asset
Ability to travel to the United States as required
The Kind of Person Who Will Thrive Here You're naturally curious
You like understanding why something works - not just how
You take pride in producing accurate, high-quality work while continually looking for opportunities to improve processes
You're equally comfortable working independently or collaborating with finance leadership on challenging tax matters
Most importantly, you're someone who enjoys building long-term relationships and becoming a trusted advisor within the business
This Probably Isn't the Right Role If … You're only interested in straightforward personal tax work

You prefer repetitive compliance work over solving complex tax challenges
You have little interest in Canadian and U.S. cross-border taxation
You're looking for a narrowly defined role with limited variety or business interaction
About the Job Opportunities like this don't come along often.
Our client is entering an exciting new chapter of growth, creating opportunities for experienced professionals to make a meaningful impact while helping shape the future of the organization.
You’ll join a respected company with an outstanding reputation, work alongside an experienced leadership team, and gain exposure to challenging Canadian and U.S. tax matters that will continue to develop your career.
If you've been waiting for a role that combines technical complexity, business partnership, long-term stability and genuine career growth, we’d welcome a confidential conversation.
Reporting Structure You’ll report directly to senior finance leadership while partnering closely with the Corporate Controller, Vice President of Finance/CFO and executive team on tax planning, compliance and strategic initiatives.
Competitive base salary of $100,000 to $150,000 , commensurate with experience
Generous annual discretionary bonus program
Comprehensive health and wellness benefits
Hybrid work environment
Mentorship and support across all levels of the organization
Chance to work across both Canadian and U.S. taxation
Stable, collaborative and growing organization
Long-term career advancement opportunities
This is a hybrid position based in one of Canada's most desirable places to live.
Surrounded by lakes, mountains, wineries and year-round outdoor recreation, Vernon offers an exceptional quality of life while remaining home to a thriving and growing business community.
Ideally looking for someone in or around the Okanagan region, however; not averse to discussion relocation for the right individual.
We value fairness, confidentiality, and human judgment in every stage of our hiring process. We do not use automated or AI-driven screening tools to assess applications. Each submission is reviewed by an experienced recruiter to ensure a thoughtful and equitable evaluation of every candidate.
Thank you for your interest in this role. One of our Recruiters will be in touch with you if your profile meets the requirements for the role and the expectations of our clients. Please note that all candidates must be permitted to work in Canada to be considered for this opportunity.
