What you’ll be doing
As a Database Support Analyst, you'll play a key role in supporting MS SQL databases across CIBC's technology landscape. You'll provide expertise in database builds, application deployments, migrations, performance tuning, and incident resolution. You'll collaborate with application owners, developers, and various CIBC Technology groups, including Solution Design, DB Engineering, Information Security, and external vendors. Your insights will help shape database standards and best practices, ensuring solutions are tailored to specific application needs. You'll work closely with project managers to develop implementation plans and oversee database upgrades and cross-platform migrations in both on-premises and cloud environments. Additionally, you'll develop automation scripts for code deployment and database migrations, embracing Agile methodologies to drive automation, project deliverables, and daily operations. Using tools like Dynatrace, you'll quickly resolve performance issues for business-critical applications and manage day-to-day operational activities, including escalations and 24x7 production support.

How you’ll succeed
Production Support - Monitor and optimize performance of Azure SQL databases, including large databases (40TB+), and resolve issues related to query plan regressions, parameter sniffing, cardinality estimation changes, query timeouts, and blocking. Utilize Query Store and analyze execution plans to identify and resolve bottlenecks, perform query performance tuning, and ensure efficient T-SQL code practices. Collaborate with developers to analyze workload patterns and optimize database interactions.
Resource Management - Address and resolve high resource contention issues to ensure optimal database performance. Assist in capacity planning, scaling, and resource allocation based on application demand and performance metrics. Apply a thorough understanding of indexes, statistics, and recompilation to diagnose and resolve performance challenges. Conduct root cause analysis for recurring or critical incidents impacting application operations.
Azure SQL Expertise - Apply deep knowledge of Azure SQL Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) limitations, capabilities, and best practices for performance management. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to DTU/vCore, Hyperscale resource allocation, throttling, and scaling.
Partnership - Act as a liaison with business partners, technology teams, senior management, and internal and external clients. Keep stakeholders informed of team mandates, policies,
and relevant legislation changes, while promoting the products and services of the Channel Support area.
P** roject Delivery**- Serve as a subject matter expert in assessing impacts for planned system changes and projects, ensuring compliance with organizational standards (Business, Continuity, Security, Compliance, and Privacy). Develop and maintain productive relationships with Technology, QA, and Project teams. Research, analyze, and support the implementation of new or revised policies, procedures, and standards, and provide recommendations on system outages and issues.
Automation: You will assist in automating manual processes using various DevOps tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub, Artifactory, & Shell Scripting.
Who you are
You can demonstrate strong technical expertise. You have hands‑on experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and Dynatrace for integrated performance tracking, analysis, and proactive management.
You understand security and disaster recovery best practices. You are knowledgeable about advanced security features in Azure SQL, including auditing, threat detection, managed identities, user access management, and disaster recovery strategies such as geo‑replication within Azure SQL PaaS environments. It is an asset if you also have experience in developing Ansible automation scripts to deploy codes, database migrations and implement Security Hardening.
You have a degree/diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a similar field.
You are an excellent communicator. You have solid written and oral communication skills and an ability to produce a variety of business documents that demonstrate command of language, clarity of thought and orderliness of presentation as well as express oneself and communicate with others verbally; recognizing that verbal communication is more than just language - it includes tone, style and structure.
You have ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups or activities. Effective judgment in prioritizing and time allocation.
