NETWORK MANAGER

Department: Learning and Information Technologies

Reports To: Director of Learning and Information Technologies

Location: Administration Office

Hours: Regular Full-Time (7 hours/day)

Purpose of Position

The Pembina Trails School Division’s Learning and Information Technologies Department oversees all technology throughout its 36 schools and administrative offices.

Working with schools, vendors, and technology personnel, the Network Manager ensures the reliable, secure, and effective operation of the Division’s network infrastructure and centrally managed, network-connected systems. In addition to core network administration responsibilities, this role provides technical leadership for building and instructional systems that rely on the network, including video surveillance, digital paging, print services, interactive displays, and projection systems. The Network Manager supports the planning, deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle management of these systems to ensure safety, reliability, and continuity across instructional and administrative environments.

Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Ensures the smooth, reliable,



and secure operation of local and wide area networks and centralized IT services, including availability, capacity, security, and disaster planning.

Oversees the network administration and operational integrity of video surveillance systems, including servers, storage, cameras, and Video Management Software.

Oversees the network administration and integration of digital paging, intercom systems, including IP-based and analogue components and backend systems.

Supports print services from a network and infrastructure perspective, including print servers, authentication, security, and system availability.

Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots network infrastructure, servers, storage systems, building system devices and related services.

Administers and maintains systems such as Active Directory, virtualization platforms, authentication services, and related cloud technologies.

Monitors network performance, identifies capacity or reliability issues, and produces performance metrics and reports.

Recommends, schedules, and performs network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.

Maintains accurate records including IT requests (work orders), network asset inventories, configuration documents, technical specifications, and troubleshooting records.

Administers and maintains end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.

Ensures consistent standards for network configuration, security, access control, and documentation across all systems.

Provides escalation-level technical support and mentorship to IT staff as required.

Performs other duties as may be assigned to support the efficient operation of the Department.

Skills and Qualifications
Skill and Knowledge – Required:





Post-secondary education in Information Technology or another related field and three to five years’ experience with Network Administration in a dynamic work environment, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.

Working technical knowledge of:

Network infrastructure (switching, routing, firewalls)

Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization platforms, and backups

Network connected systems such as video surveillance, digital paging, print services, and instructional display technologies.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex, integrated systems spanning hardware, software, and networking layers.

Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritize.

Robust interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of employees with various skill levels.

Excellent customer service skills with the ability to deal with complaints and concerns effectively.

Keen attention to detail.

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Possess a valid Manitoba Driver’s Licence.

Skill and Knowledge – Desired:

Experience working in K-12 education.

Experience with project management.

IT-specific certifications such as ITIL, CompTIA Net+

Work is performed mainly in an office environment, however, may also need to work in schools.

Salary Range $46.55 - $56.06 / CUPE 5121 Collective Agreement (available for viewing online)
