Number of Available Positions
Vacancies: Two (02), located at the Regional Headquarters, Whitby, Ontario.

1 position in the Transportation Planning section reporting to the Manager, Transportation Planning

1 position in the Integrated Growth Management and Policy section reporting to the Manager, Integrated Growth Management and Policy

Planner 1
The Community Growth Division is looking for individuals to join the team in the position of Planner 1 to undertake land use and transportation planning-related work, including research and analysis, monitoring of development activity or travel demand, and assisting more senior staff dealing with complex planning matters/projects, such as background reports for the Development Charges By-law, Transportation Master Plan update, etc. The incumbents will:

Undertake research activities and studies

Assess data to identify trends, areas of concern, and potential impacts upon community growth and/or transportation related initiatives

Contribute to the development of land use, growth management and transportation planning policies

Prepare reports and recommendations on a variety of planning applications, issues and projects

Represent and advocate Regional interests at meetings and workshops

Participate in the Ontario Land Tribunal processes to uphold decisions of Regional Council





The successful applicant will possess:

A four-year Honours Bachelor degree in Planning or a related discipline

Membership or eligibility for provisional membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI). Candidates holding equivalent professional planning designations recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) will also be considered.

Relevant professional planning experience

A demonstrated ability to apply planning principles, standards, methods and theories

Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques, and the use of computer technology for planning, would be a an asset

Effective organizational, analytical and oral/written communication skills

Ability to work and communicate clearly and respectfully within a multidisciplinary team setting, with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and be productive independently

Ability to deliver excellent customer service and build positive relationships

Skilled in addressing conflicts and fostering collaborative solutions

Skilled in developing professional reports and delivering effective presentations to varied audiences

CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 7
This position is with Salary Grade 7 and will be paid at the following hourly rates: Start: $48.53 - Six Month: $51.22 - Job: $53.92
