WSIB Claims Specialist
Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for Onsite WSIB Claim Management at the Oshawa Assembly Plant.
As a member of GM's Safety Team, you will lead and coordinate assigned business functions in day-to-day WSIB activities and provide direction and leadership that aligns and supports our objectives, mission and culture. The main areas of focus for this position are: WSIB Administration and the Medical Accommodation Placement Process.
You will work strategically with functional business leaders in the plant to develop positive working relationships, build engagement with our Union partners, provide claim management oversight, and ensure compliance.
As a member of the Oshawa Assembly Safety Team, you will demonstrate behaviours that promote a solid inclusive workplace culture that attracts and motivates others while supporting our overall Safety and HR/LR strategic objectives.
Understand legal requirements at an execution-level related to the management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities Lead onsite WSIB claim management activities including investigations
Coordinate the Medical Accommodation Placement Process
Oversee WSIB administration and ensure regulatory compliance
Routine collaboration with WSIB, Medical, Safety, Payroll, HR/LR
Respond to WSIB inquiries regarding injury details, payments, impairment levels, and return-to-work matters
Coordinate return-to-work and accommodation plans with plant leaders, medical, and union representatives
Upload and maintain all WSIB documentation and records
Maintain records in HRIS/Safety Systems; Workday, Kronos
Promote and maintain positive relationships with union partners
Provide guidance to leaders regarding employee accommodations and case management
Counsel plant leadership in the administration of collective agreements and workplace policies
Qualifications 5+ years WSIB experience
Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution
Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and work to plan
Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and project management skills
High integrity and proven ability to manage confidential information
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Highly proficient use of HR Systems and software applications (i.e. Workday, Kronos, Excel, etc.)
Competencies Influencing without Authority, Managerial Courage, Action Oriented,
Comfort around Higher Management, Problem Solving, and Dealing with Ambiguity
Education and/or Training Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment
Previous WSIB administration experience (highly desired)
WSIA legislative knowledge
Accommodation management expertise
Return-to-work program administration
Form 7 adjudication and appeal support
Collective agreement interpretation related to accommodations
Data analytics and claim cost reduction initiatives
Compensation The salary range for this role is $97,800 to $146,600. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
