About the Prospect
We are seeking an experienced Project Accounting Advisor II (Capital Assets) to join a dynamic accounting team supporting large-scale capital projects and fixed asset accounting activities. This role is ideal for a hands‑on accounting professional who understands the complete capitalization lifecycle, from project setup and cost tracking through capitalization, unitization, depreciation, and reporting. Working closely with Capital Management, Fixed Assets, Financial Reporting, FP&A;, Regulatory, and Tax teams, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of capital asset accounting, financial reporting, audit support, and continuous process improvement initiatives.

This is a highly visible role that also provides coaching and guidance to junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

Support monthly and quarterly close activities related to capital projects and capital assets

Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, cost transfers, and supporting schedules

Manage project accounting activities, including project setup, cost tracking, capitalization readiness, and project closeout

Analyze and resolve complex accounting issues, transaction discrepancies, and balance variances

Prepare recurring and ad hoc capital asset and project accounting reports

Support AFUDC/IDC calculations and related accounting processes

Assist with project cost allocations and transfers

Support internal and external audits, SOX compliance, controls testing, and process walkthroughs





Develop and maintain accounting process documentation and procedures

Participate in balance sheet cleanup, CWIP cleanup, and remediation initiatives

Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies, and strengthened controls

Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior accounting team members

Collaborate with stakeholders across Accounting, Capital Management, FP&A;, Regulatory, Tax, and Financial Reporting

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline

5+ years of progressive accounting experience

Strong knowledge of accounting principles and month-end close processes

Experience in one or more of:

Project Accounting

Capital Accounting

Fixed Asset Accounting

Construction Accounting

Advanced Excel skills

Experience with large ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills

Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities

Ability to independently investigate accounting issues and recommend solutions

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

CPA designation or CPA candidate





Utility industry experience

Experience with capital project accounting and CWIP accounting

Knowledge of capital accruals, project cost transfers, AFUDC/IDC, and capital reporting

Experience supporting audits, SOX controls, and internal control documentation

Experience leading or contributing to process improvement initiatives

Previous coaching, mentoring, or review responsibilities
