Sessional Instructional Assistant - ARC1043HS - Building Science, Materials, and Construction 2
Description:

Course Description: This course introduces the fundamental concepts behind modern building science, and applies these to the performance of materials and methods of construction for traditional and contemporary building systems. The course deals with building science theory, and its practical application. The increasing importance of building performance for architectural design will be reviewed in the context of changing codes, standards, and increasing building owner/occupant concern for the environmental implications of buildings.

Dates of Appointments: January 1, 2027 - April 30, 2027

Class Schedule: FR 09:00-12:00

Hours of work: 120

Available Positions: 1

Salary: $55.25/hour (plus vacation pay)
*Please note that rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement will prevail.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must hold a professional Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) degree (mandatory).

Candidates must demonstrate strong knowledge of building science, as well as applied experience in occupant-centered architecture, and thermal comfort.

Applicants must demonstrate formal graduate-level training in architecture, with robust competency in environmental systems, building performance, construction technologies, and integrated building systems.

Prior experience as an instructor in lecture-based and studio-based architectural courses is required.

Candidates must have demonstrated ability to deliver technical content within design studio environments.

Professional experience in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems coordination & integration is required.

Candidates must also have proven design experience in both residential and commercial architecture projects.

Preferred Qualifications





Candidates with applied professional experience in civil, architectural, and utility coordination workflows are strongly preferred.

Experience advising architecture or engineering firms on systems integration strategies and supporting design implementation is considered a strong asset.

Candidates with experience producing detailed as-built and/or permit ready drawings will be viewed favorably.

Leadership experience in professional and/or academic settings is an asset.

Familiarity with contemporary architectural practice is strongly preferred.

Evidence of the ability to contribute to curriculum development, studio instruction, and applied research in building performance or integrated design will be considered an advantage.

Duties

Attending weekly lectures (in-person)

grading student work

tabulating and tracking grades

invigilating tests and exams

holding office hours for regular meetings with students.
