Infrastructure Solution Architect
Pay Rate: $101.70/hour, depending on experience
Contract Length: 1 YEAR
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Raise is currently hiring a Infrastructure Solution Architect on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our client is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The REM Infrastructure Solution Architect reports to the Director, Strategy and Corporate Services and is responsible for designing, governing, and evolving the clients cloud and container infrastructure platforms. This role goes beyond theoretical architecture; requiring strong hands‑on experience, practical decision‑making, and active collaboration with management and delivery teams. This role requires to not only architect the solution but take it to the implementation. Operating in a highly regulated, mission‑critical environment, the architect ensures infrastructure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and cost‑efficient, while supporting key functions such as market operations, grid reliability, and corporate services.
This individual acts as the primary technical authority for Kubernetes, infrastructure, cloud and network architecture, and plays a critical role in translating business needs into implementable, real‑world solutions by defining enterprise infrastructure standards, capacity planning and embedding cloud‑native and DevOps practices across theIT Solution Delivery Lifecycle.
The initial contract will be for one year, working between 20 – 40 hours per week, with the possibility of extension. We support a hybrid work workplace, where the team is in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays are flexible for where you work best.
Responsibilities
Kubernetes & Container Platform Architecture
Design and govern enterprise Kubernetes platforms, including: Cluster architecture, multi‑tenancy, and namespace strategy
Workload scheduling, autoscaling,
and capacity planning
Networking (ingress, service mesh, network policies)
Container registry and supply chain security
Observability (monitoring, logging, tracing)
Implement and promote: Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and GitOps
CI/CD and automated deployments
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices
Ensure alignment with: Security, compliance, and regulatory frameworks
ITSM and change management processes
Cloud & Infrastructure Architecture Define scalable, resilient, and cost‑optimized cloud architectures
Provide clear, implementable infrastructure options based on business requirements
Design for: High availability and disaster recovery
Security and compliance
Performance and scalability
Environment Management & Capacity Planning Establish strategy for environment lifecycle management (Dev, Test, Prod)
Ensure consistency, stability, and release readiness across environments
Lead capacity planning across compute, storage, and network:
Forecast demand and growth Optimize resource utilization and cost
Prevent bottlenecks and resource contention
Enable automation using Infrastructure as Code
Provide dashboards, monitoring, and capacity insights
Solution Design & Delivery
Lead architecture across projects and programs
Ensure: Proper identification of dependencies
Well‑defined non‑functional requirements
Architecture proportional to risk and complexity
Act as: A key escalation point for technical risks
A go‑live readiness authority
Network Capacity Planning & Assessment Plan and forecast network capacity, bandwidth, and traffic patterns
Ensure network scalability, high availability, and low latency
Identify bottlenecks and optimize traffic flow and load balancing
Define standards for segmentation, secure connectivity, and hybrid networking
Support performance tuning, cost optimization,
and incident root cause analysis
Vendor & Partner Oversight Review and validate vendor designs and deliverables
Ensure adherence tostandards and security requirements
Hold vendors accountable for quality and alignment
Technical Leadership & Collaboration Mentor engineers and promote strong engineering culture
Provide architecture direction and conduct design reviews
Work closely with: Delivery teams
Security teams
Operations teams
Qualifications
8+ years’ experience in infrastructure, platform, or cloud engineering
5+ years’ experience designing and operating Kubernetes / container platforms in production
5+ years’ experience of Iterative and Agile methodologies, practices and related standards.
Proven experience leading technical workstreams.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and CI/CD tooling (e.g., Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD).
Experience integrating and operating vendor provided solutions (SaaS, COTS)
Experience with Azure cloud and Linux administration
Demonstrated experience working in an IT environment working directly with business leaders and 3rd party solution providers.
Utilities industry background is an asset.
Previous technical leadership is an asset.
Education and Certifications
A Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering (or equivalent).
The following certifications are an asset: Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
Cloud architecture certification (Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent)
TOGAF 10 Practitioner
Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) or equivalent
