Role Responsibilities
The Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) Program serves over 120,000 Albertans with chronic conditions and disabilities by ensuring access to essential medical equipment and supplies. We are looking for a clinically grounded, analytical, and collaborative Assistive Devices and Equipment Consultant to guide benefit design, enhance program delivery, and support high‑quality, evidence‑based services across the province. This role combines clinical insight, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and system‑level leadership – ideal for a regulated health professional seeking to make a broad impact.
Provide strategic and clinical leadership for assistive device and equipment advantages (e.g., prosthetic, orthotic and footwear benefits), ensuring policies and standards reflect evidence and emerging health needs.
Develop, update, and interpret AADL policies and procedures, including eligibility criteria, benefit limits, and access parameters.
Evaluate products, technologies, and vendor performance to maintain and enhance the applicable AADL Approved Product Lists (APL).
Review and adjudicate complex prosthetic, orthotic and footwear benefit authorization requests, including prior approvals and quantity/frequency reviews.
Oversee benefit administration delivered through Alberta Blue Cross and collaborate on system improvements.
Lead operational and process enhancements, supporting financial forecasting, contract planning, and program sustainability.
Build and maintain strong relationships with health providers, vendors, Alberta Blue Cross, and other ministries.
Provide expert guidance and issue management, preparing briefing materials and responding to inquiries from clients, vendors, authorizers and stakeholders.
Collaborate with AADL program staff and clinical consultants to support program operations and priorities.
Apply clinical judgment to balance client needs, program sustainability, and policy requirements.

Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standard: Degree related to the position assignment and four (4) years of related experience. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college if required by the Health Professions Act.
Equivalency: Diploma related to the position assignment and six (6) years of related experience. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college if required by the Health Professions Act.
Master’s degree: Related to the position assignment and three (3) years of related experience. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college if required by the Health Professions Act.
Requirement
Registration and good standing with the appropriate Alberta qualified college.
Extensive clinical experience in rehabilitation medicine, including work with assistive devices such as prosthetics, orthotics, and custom footwear.
Strong understanding of chronic diseases, disabilities, and related health system supports across home care, community, and facility settings.
Assets
Knowledge of the AADL program, its policies, benefit structures, and legislative context.
Experience evaluating assistive technologies, medical equipment, or vendor performance.
Experience assessing and adjudicating eligibility requests.
Experience with contract management, procurement processes, or benefit administration (e.g., Alberta Blue Cross).
Hours of work are 08:15 AM to 04:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
This is a full‑time temporary position working 36.25 hours per week in downtown Edmonton.
