Description The Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Materials Processing for Sustainability. This position is part of the University of Alberta’s priority to build a diverse faculty in strategic research areas; thus, candidates from traditionally underrepresented and equity-deserving groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
We welcome applications from scholars with research expertise in materials engineering, with a research focus on manufacturing processes for sustainability, such as advanced carbon materials, fibrous materials, recycled materials, and composite materials, and the processed products in composite structures and/or functional devices for energy storage/transportation. The areas of application could include: infrastructure for fossil fuels (gas/oil), greenhouse gas mitigation (e.g., CO2), dual-use applications, and other related advanced materials applications. The candidate is expected to develop a grant-funded research program in this area and to teach courses including materials science, mechanical properties, and manufacturing.
This role will be in the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering. Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service: teaching 40%, research 40%, and service 20% with oversight by the Department Chair. Teaching involves classroom teaching, supervision of students,
and advising; licensure as a Professional Engineer is required within five years of hire. Research involves pursuing funding and dissemination of results. Service includes governance and community engagement.
Qualifications Minimum: Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; Licensed Professional Engineer or eligible within five years; robust publication record and experience in Materials Processing for Sustainability; ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses; demonstrated service and outreach. Preferred: teaching experience and curriculum design; potential to supervise; experience with interdisciplinary and industry-collaborative research; project and financial management; lab and facility management.
