Position: Casual Event & Facility Support Staff

POSITION OVERVIEW
The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is seeking reliable, flexible, and energetic Casual Event & Facility Support Staff to support programs, special events, facility operations, and housekeeping across multiple YMCA locations.
This casual, on-call position is ideal for individuals who enjoy a variety of work and are available to pick up shifts as operational needs arise. Assignments may include event set-up and tear-down, moving equipment and furniture, housekeeping duties, assisting with facility preparation, and providing general operational support.
Work may be scheduled during days, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays depending on event schedules and organizational needs.
Locations
Shifts may be available at various YMCA locations throughout the Saint John region, including:
- Regional YMCA
- Irving Oil Field House
- Glen Carpenter Centre
- Other YMCA facilities as required
Please note that some work locations, including the Glen Carpenter Centre, are not accessible by public transit. Reliable transportation may be required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the set-up and tear-down of special events, meetings, rentals, and community programs.
- Move tables, chairs, sports equipment, staging,
and other event materials safely and efficiently.
- Complete general housekeeping and cleaning duties before, during, and after events.
- Maintain clean, organized, and welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces.
- Assist with facility preparations for programs, rentals, and community events.
- Support staff with general operational tasks as assigned.
- Follow YMCA health and safety procedures, including safe lifting practices.
- Provide friendly, professional, and respectful service to members, guests, volunteers, and community partners.
- Represent the YMCA's values of Belonging, Inclusiveness, Respect, Caring, and Honesty in all interactions.
Qualifications
- Reliable, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Positive attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience in event support, facilities, housekeeping, customer service, or general labour is considered an asset but is not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMEMENTS
This position regularly requires:
- Lifting and carrying up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, and pulling.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions as required.
SCHEDULING & AVAILABILTY
Casual, on-call position with no guaranteed minimum hours.
- Shifts are scheduled based on operational requirements and event needs.
- The YMCA utilizes an electronic scheduling system to communicate available shifts.
- Staff are encouraged to indicate their availability and accept shifts that fit their schedules.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is a casual, on-call position with no guarantee of minimum hours. Shifts are scheduled based on operational and event needs and may vary from week to week.
- Work may be assigned at various YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick locations within the Saint John region, including the Regional YMCA, Irving Oil Field House, Glen Carpenter Centre, and other locations as required.
- Shifts may be scheduled during days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational requirements and event schedules.
- Staff are responsible for arranging their own reliable transportation to and from assigned work locations. Please note that some locations, including the Glen Carpenter Centre, are not accessible by public transit.
- This position involves physical work and regularly requires lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods. Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Employees are expected to maintain a safe work workplace by following all YMCA policies, safe work practices, and occupational health and safety procedures.
- The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick has a Joint Health and Safety Committee that meets regularly to promote a safe and healthy workplace. Employees are encouraged to bring forward any workplace health and safety concerns to their supervisor or a committee member.
- Employees are expected to contribute to maintaining clean, organized, and welcoming facilities by following YMCA cleaning standards and operational procedures.
