Position Summary

Clinical Nurse Educator, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Your goal in this position is to provide professional practice leadership that fosters excellence in neonatal nursing education, evidence-informed practice, and family-centred care within a Level 2C Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Working collaboratively with the Director of Interprofessional Practice & Education, Director of Maternal Newborn, Paediatrics and Clinical Genetics, operational leadership, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team, you will support the development of a high-performing clinical team dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality care to newborns and their families.

You will be responsible for advancing neonatal nursing practice through education, competency development, quality improvement initiatives, simulation-based learning, policy development, and implementation of evidence-informed best practices. You will promote a culture of continuous learning, professional accountability, and innovation while supporting staff in maintaining clinical competence and delivering exceptional patient and family experiences.

As a clinical expert in neonatal nursing, you will serve as a mentor, coach, consultant, and educational resource for nursing staff and the interdisciplinary team. You will collaborate with other Clinical Nurse Educators across the organization to promote patient- and family-centred care, participate in clinically relevant research, and develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs that support excellence in neonatal care.

You possess expert knowledge of neonatal nursing practice, developmental and family-integrated care, neonatal stabilization, and Level 2C NICU standards. You demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, communication, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to foster collaborative relationships across disciplines and lead practice change initiatives.





This position supports the hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching, learning, research, quality improvement, and innovation. The Clinical Nurse Educator contributes to the organization's shared responsibility for maintaining a safe, healthy, and respectful environment for patients, families, staff, physicians, learners, volunteers, and visitors.

On a practical level, you will

- Provide professional practice leadership and educational expertise to support high-quality, evidence- informed, family-centred neonatal care.
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate competency-based orientation, education, and professional development programs for nurses and the interprofessional team within the Level 2C NICU.
- Support onboarding, orientation, and ongoing competency assessment of new staff, students, and clinical learners.
- Promote evidence-informed practice through implementation of current neonatal clinical guidelines, standards of care, and quality improvement initiatives aligned with organizational priorities.
- Develop and deliver educational programs focused on neonatal assessment, developmental care, thermoregulation, feeding support, respiratory care, medication safety, neonatal stabilization, and family-integrated care.
- Lead simulation-based education and mock code activities to enhance neonatal resuscitation, emergency preparedness, teamwork, and communication.
- Collaborate with operational leadership to identify learning needs and develop strategies that promote clinical excellence and continuous professional development.
- Review, revise, and support implementation of neonatal policies, procedures, clinical pathways, and practice guidelines.
- Facilitate competency validation and support staff in interpreting professional standards, scope of practice, legislative requirements, and accreditation standards.
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, practice evaluation, research, and knowledge translation initiatives that improve neonatal outcomes.
- Monitor quality indicators, identify opportunities for practice improvement, and support implementation of corrective action plans where appropriate.
- Foster an environment that promotes family-centred care, equity, diversity, inclusion, psychological safety, and interprofessional collaboration.
- Collaborate with Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Neonatologists, Respiratory Therapists, Lactation Consultants, Allied Health Professionals, and Skilled Practice colleagues to optimize patient outcomes.
- Support implementation of organizational initiatives related to clinical documentation,



infection prevention and control, patient safety, and quality standards.
- Maintain compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, infection prevention standards, and organizational policies.

Qualifications

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) required.
- Master's degree in a related field required
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Minimum of five (5) years recent neonatal nursing experience, including experience in a Level IIC or Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years recent experience in clinical education, skilled practice, staff development, or quality improvement preferred.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider certification an asset
- Current ACoRN provider certification preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Current breastfeeding/lactation education or neonatal developmental care education considered an asset.
- Experience facilitating simulation-based education and competency assessment preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and practice change initiatives.
- Knowledge of family-integrated care, developmental care principles, neonatal stabilization, and neonatal respiratory support.
- Excellent facilitation, coaching, mentoring, and change management skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and project management abilities.
- Experience with electronic health records and learning management systems considered an asset.
- Commitment to lifelong learning, research, innovation, and professional excellence.
