Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Director, Manager or designate, the Nurse Informaticist (NI) leads and promotes the integration of computer and communications technologies and clinical change initiatives that automate and/or enhance evidence-based clinical practices, access to patient/client information, and clinical documentation via the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and/or Electronic Health Information System in collaboration with clinical operational leaders, service, program, staff, and physicians.

As an integral regional member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Nurse Informaticist works to develop and redesign workflow and processes to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of Island Health. The Nurse Informaticist partners closely with front-line clinicians and local quality structures to assess practice, identify barriers, and ensure digital tools and workflows are effectively integrated to enable high-quality, safe, and efficient care across Island Health.

Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience





- Graduation from a recognized nursing program or evidence of an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; and
- Current practicing registration as a RN with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives; and
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
- Positions in Advanced Electronic Health Record & Health Information Management and EHR & Practice Optimization require three (3) years' recent related experience in a health care environment, including experience using related computer technology, clinical informatics, clinical change management, and/or project leadership.
- Positions in Population and Public Health require three (3) years' recent related experience in a Population and Public Health environment, including experience using related computer technology, clinical informatics, clinical change management, and/or project leadership.

This position is part of the EHR & Practice Optimization team within the Professional Practice & Learning Portfolio. This Nurse Informaticist position is part of a broader regional team, as well as a local resource team for South Island digital practice support. This position, although regional in nature, will have a mixture of on site and remote work with an expectation of 1-2 days on site at an assigned local acute facility to support digital practice. Regional support work and travel is required to support operational needs and organizational priorities. On call work is required to support the Technical Support Desk Tier 2 support. More specifically about the EHR & Practice Optimization team: Our team partners with clinicians to make digital tools and the electronic health record (EHR) work better in everyday practice. We help remove workflow barriers, support teams as they prepare for change, introduce new technologies, and turn EHR data into meaningful insights that drive improvement. Our focus is on making digital tools easier to use, more effective, and better aligned with clinical practice. Our key areas of focus include: -EHR practice optimization - improving day-to-day workflows by addressing people, process, and technology challenges. -Practice readiness & change management - preparing teams for change, clarifying what is changing and why, and supporting with practical strategies to adapt. -Technology integration - guiding the rollout and adoption of new tools and workflows (e.g., Nurse Connect, Positive Blood Admin). -Data-driven practice support - transforming Cerner data into meaningful worklists, reports, and insights that help frontline staff, leaders, and partners make informed decisions.
