Job Description:
We are looking for a Financial Analyst to join a retail organization in Markham, Ontario in a Contract to permanent opportunity. This position is well suited to a detail-oriented individual who enjoys turning complex data into practical financial insights that support sound business decisions. Working closely with finance and sales stakeholders, the successful candidate will help evaluate performance, shape forecasts, and identify opportunities to improve profitability and planning accuracy.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with finance, sales, and other internal teams to support annual budget development and quarterly forecasting activities, while assessing performance changes from prior periods.
- Serve as a financial partner to the sales function by delivering analysis and outlooks across customers, brands, and product lines to support revenue planning.
- Examine financial results, trends, and variance drivers to uncover meaningful insights related to margins, costs, and overall business performance.
- Monitor promotional and trade spending, validate account activity, and recommend ways to improve return on investment and profitable growth.
- Prepare ad hoc reports, models, and presentations that help leadership evaluate risks, opportunities,
and changing market conditions.
- Contribute to month-end financial activities, including reporting support, reconciliations, and analysis required for accurate results.
- Lead or support initiatives that strengthen reporting methods, streamline financial processes, and improve the quality of decision-making data.
Requirements:
- Canadian CPA designation or an equivalent accounting credential.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modelling and analysis in data-heavy environments.
- Strong working knowledge of finance and accounting processes, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and reconciliations.
- Experience using business systems and reporting tools such as SAP, CRM platforms, accounting software, or Crystal Reports.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced, sales-driven workplace.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and critical thinking skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Hyperion Essbase and planning tools is considered an asset.
- Positive attitude, strong initiative, and curiosity to understand the factors influencing business performance.
