DYMACO is an engineering and consulting company located in Thunder Bay, Ontario that provides services primarily in the Mining, Heavy Industrial and Power Generation fields both in Canada and abroad. DYMACO has a dynamic team to ensure the firm’s ability to handle major multi-disciplinary projects and has extensive experience in project planning, pre-feasibility/feasibility, technical design of surface and underground structures. We are looking to add to our growing team, a detail orientated individual who works well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
JOB SUMMARY
Our Structural team is directly involved with a variety of different project types, ranging from heavy industrial to commercial/institutional buildings, through to specialty buildings/structures in the Mining and Power sectors. In this role, you will have the opportunity to experience engineering on many levels while working closely with colleagues and senior management on projects from the conceptual phase through construction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design of new buildings and structures as well as structural alterations and additions.
- Analysis of existing structures and building condition assessment reports.
- Design of structures utilizing hand calculations, spreadsheets, and structural design software for steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures.
- Supporting the development of proposals, study reports, engineering specifications, and contract documents
- Manage and coordinate projects with clients and other disciplines.
- Collaborate with Senior Engineers and drafting personnel to develop structural drawings.
- Respond to client request for proposals.
- Providing engineering technical field support during construction, including responding to RFIs from contractors, issuing Site Instructions and performing field reviews.
- Coordinate with Architectural, Electrical and Mechanical engineering disciplines.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Post-graduate degree will be considered as an asset.
- Registered Skilled Engineer or EIT with the PEO.
- 1-10 years of experience in structural design of buildings.
- Excellent knowledge of structural theory, the National Building Code of Canada, Ontario Building Code and Canadian design standards (concrete, structural steel, wood, masonry).
- Experience with US design standards will be considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of structural analysis and design software such as S-FRAME.
- Demonstrated Project Management experience.
- Seismic analysis and design experience an asset.
- General working knowledge of other building disciplines.
- Experience in construction will be considered an asset.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
