Vocational Rehabilitation Contractor – Employment Services Specialist

Nanaimo & Central Vancouver Island
Independent Contractor Position

Vancouver Island Vocational and Rehabilitation Services (VIVRS) is seeking experienced Vocational Rehabilitation Contractors / Employment Services Specialists to provide individualized vocational rehabilitation and employment support services for individuals referred through WorkSafeBC Vocational Rehabilitation Services.

The successful contractor will work independently while collaborating with the VIVRS vocational rehabilitation team to deliver high-quality, evidence-informed services.

Role Responsibilities

The successful contractor may provide a range of vocational rehabilitation and employment services, including:

Resume and Cover Letter Preparation

- Conduct individualized consultations to identify client strengths, transferable skills, employment goals, and vocational needs.
- Develop professional resumes and cover letters tailored to the client’s employment objectives.

Job Search Skills Support

- Provide individualized or group-based job search skills training.
- Support clients with:
- Labour market exploration
- Job search strategies
- Online employment resources
- Networking and employer outreach
- Interview preparation
- Workplace expectations
- Self-advocacy and confidence building
- Strategies for overcoming employment barriers

Individualized Job Placement Support

Provide comprehensive employment development and placement services, including:

- Developing individualized employment strategies.
- Identifying suitable employment opportunities aligned with client goals and abilities.
- Conducting employer research and outreach.
- Supporting direct employer marketing activities.
- Assisting clients with applications, interviews, and hiring processes.




- Supporting workplace integration and employment sustainment.
- Maintaining appropriate documentation and communication related to service delivery.

Direct Marketing and Employer Engagement

- Build connections with employers and community partners.
- Promote client skills, abilities, and employment potential.
- Facilitate employer conversations regarding suitable employment opportunities.
- Support clients in accessing meaningful and sustainable employment.

Customized Vocational Rehabilitation Planning

- Assist with vocational information gathering and employment planning.
- Support identification of vocational goals, barriers, and strategies.
- Collaborate with vocational rehabilitation professionals and other stakeholders as required.
- Provide professional documentation related to service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

- Post-secondary education in vocational rehabilitation, career development, counselling, psychology, human services, social services, disability management, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum two years of recent experience providing employment-related services, including:
- Vocational rehabilitation
- Employment counselling
- Resume and cover letter development
- Job search coaching
- Job development and placement services
- Employer engagement

Preferred qualifications include one or more of the following:





- Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC/CCRC)
- Registered Vocational Professional (RVP)
- Registered Rehabilitation Skilled (RRP)
- Certified Vocational Professional (CVP)
- Master Certificate in Vocational Professional (MCVP) through the College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals
- Certified Career Development Professional (CCDP)
- Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP)

Candidates with demonstrated experience supporting individuals with disabilities, workplace injuries, barriers to employment, or complex vocational needs are encouraged to apply.

Contractor Requirements

Successful contractors must have:

- Registered business or ability to operate as an independent contractor.
- Professional liability/errors and omissions insurance or equivalent coverage (minimum $2 million recommended).
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to provide services throughout Nanaimo and surrounding communities as required.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.
