Forklift Mechanic Job Description
Job Summary: We are seeking a licensed Forklift Mechanic to handle the repair, servicing, and preventative maintenance of forklifts and rolling equipment for one of our warehouse clients in Brampton! The successful candidate must have their own tools and experience working on propane forklifts. This role will ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for job-site use while minimizing downtime and following all health and safety requirements.
Job Type: Full-time, permanent. 100% on-site.
Job Location: Brampton, ON
Compensation Structure: $33.00 - $38.00 per hour, depending on experience
Responsibilities:
· Develop, implement, and monitor a planned maintenance program for all forklifts
· Diagnose, repair, and maintain forklifts, including coordinating outsourced repairs when required
· Test equipment to ensure it is safe and fully operational before returning it to service
· Communicate maintenance schedules and equipment breakdowns to Operations
· Maintain an inventory of forklift parts and manage parts sourcing and service providers
· Work with Operations to develop repair budgets and estimates
· Support the training and development of apprentices, trainees, and maintenance staff
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance area and ensure tools are kept in good working order
· Perform forklift job-ready inspections and staging activities
· Ensure all forklifts leave the facility in secure working condition with no deficiencies
· Complete all required work orders and maintenance documentation
· Assist with the selection of new forklifts and recommendations regarding equipment retirement
· Follow all health and safety policies, procedures, and industry best practices
· Demonstrate strong problem-solving, communication, teamwork,
and organizational skills
· Take ownership of maintenance issues and proactively identify and implement solutions
· Other duties as assigned
Skills/Qualifications:
· Licensed Forklift Mechanic with a completed apprenticeship program or equivalent combination of trade experience and relevant education
· Provincial Certificate of Qualification and/or Certificate of Apprenticeship in one of the following:
o Power Lift Truck Technician
o Diesel Mechanic
o Heavy Equipment Mechanic
· Strong knowledge of forklift systems, including gasoline, diesel, and propane fuel systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, braking systems, powertrains, and related mechanical components
· Experience repairing and maintaining forklifts, trucks, lifts, and other material handling equipment
· Must have experience working on propane forklifts and possess own tools
· Valid driver’s license required; DZ/AZ license considered an asset
· Forklift Certification, Propane Certification, Brake Inspection Certification, CSA Safety Certificates, and WHMIS Certification are considered assets
· Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues and make sound repair decisions
· Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
· Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with operations and maintenance teams
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety
· Ability to work in various environments, including outdoor conditions, loud environments, and areas involving mechanical equipment, fumes, chemicals, and combustible gases
· Physically capable of standing, walking, climbing, lifting, bending, kneeling, and performing hands-on mechanical work as required
