Purpose:

The purpose of the Pharmacy assistant role is to safely and accurately prepare sterile compounded medications for patients receiving home infusion therapy. The Pharmacy assistant is responsible for maintaining compliance with regulatory and quality standards, supporting efficient pharmacy operations, and ensuring compounded products are prepared using approved aseptic techniques. Through collaboration with pharmacists and other members of the pharmacy team, this role helps ensure patients receive protected, high-quality medications in a timely manner.

Job Responsibilities:

- Maintain inventory of sufficient supplies in dispensary to meet compounding demands.
- Prepare, process, dispense, and compound intravenous admixtures of antibiotics, total parenteral nutrition and other orders as per defined work instructions.
- Pick, inspect, verify, and disinfect all components against the order sheet to be used for compounding.
- Enter and program infusion pump parameters to be verified by the pharmacist.
- Perform validation, calibration, and microbiological monitoring and checking.
- Assist in the cleaning of equipment, totes, and work surfaces and maintain facility compliance with Royal Drugs standards.
- Maintain and participate in inventory counts

Qualifications:





- Minimum 1 year of experience working in a pharmacy practice setting.
- Secondary school education and 1 year pharmacy experience an asset

Skills:

- IV experience or prior experience in a hospital or outpatient setting ideal, but not required.
- Sound knowledge of aseptic technique an asset.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities under pressure.
- Ability to handle multiple demands made simultaneously under short time constraints.
- Able to work individually and in a group setting.
- Flexible and adaptable to changes of responsibility reflective of the business needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Repeated repetitive use of the hands, fingers, wrists, and upper body when preparing or compounding

orders

- Continuous lifting of heavy solution boxes or bins weighing up to 20-30kg
- Strong attention to detail
