Job Description:

The Food Coordinator supports the successful delivery of school-based nutrition programming by preparing healthy meals, maintaining safe and efficient food service operations, and assisting with program administration. Reporting to the Principal/Site Director and the Divisional Nutrition Program Coordinator, the Food Coordinator contributes to creating positive, inclusive meal experiences for students while ensuring compliance with food safety standards and divisional procedures. Hourly rate is dependent on qualification. Valid driver’s licence mandatory.

Responsibilities:

The Food Coordinator may be responsible for:

· Preparing and serving nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks that align with Canada's Food Guide, Manitoba's Healthy Food in Schools Policy, and the National School Food Policy.

· Maintaining clean, organized kitchens, food storage areas, and eating spaces in accordance with food safety requirements.

· Supporting menu implementation and adapting food service to meet the diverse cultural backgrounds and needs of students.

· Building positive relationships with students and supervising meal service where required.

· Assisting with food growing initiatives and transporting food or supplies between school sites, as needed.

Working in collaboration with school administration, the Food Coordinator may also:

· Purchase food and supplies, receive deliveries, monitor inventory, and manage expenditures within approved budgets.

· Maintain accurate records of purchasing, inventory, meal participation, receipts, and other program data.





· Complete other duties that support the effective operation of the school nutrition program.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

· Completion of secondary education.

· At least one year of food preparation experience, preferably in a high-volume setting.

· Experience working with children and youth.

· Experience with purchasing, inventory control, and record keeping is an asset.

· Knowledge of safe food handling practices and Canada’s Food Guide.

· A valid Food Handler Certificate, or willingness to complete a provided online course.

· A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, anti-racism, and Truth and Reconciliation.

· Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
