Position: Cross-Border Transport Driver (Mississauga – Bronx)
Classification: Independent Contractor (Potential for Full-Time Conversion)
Location: Mississauga, ON (Base of Operations)
Schedule: Alternate Day Rotation (Regional/Long-Haul)
Executive Summary
We are seeking a highly professional, safety-oriented Cross-Border Commercial Driver to manage the transport of goods from our Mississauga hub to various locations within the United States. This role begins as a fixed-term contract position, with a performance-based review for conversion to Full-Time Permanent status. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) while ensuring strict adherence to both Canadian and U.S. federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Cross-Border Logistics: Execute scheduled routes from Mississauga, ON, to designated U.S. destinations. Manage all aspects of border crossing, including e-Manifest (ACE/ACI) compliance.
- Vehicle Operation: Safe operation of a tractor-trailer in various weather and traffic conditions. Conduct comprehensive Pre-Trip and Post-Trip inspections (DVIR) as per MTO and FMCSA standards.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain meticulous Electronic Logging Device (ELD) records in strict accordance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations in both jurisdictions.
- Cargo Management: Ensure the security of freight through proper load securement. Supervise or assist in the loading/unloading process as required by the contract.
- Communication: Provide real-time updates to dispatch regarding ETAs, border delays, or mechanical issues.
Requirements & Qualifications
1. Licensing & Documentation
- Valid Class AZ License: Minimum of 3 years of verifiable commercial driving experience.
- Clean Driver’s Abstract: No major violations within the last 36 months (CVOR and Abstract required).
- U.S.
Entry Eligibility: Must possess a valid Passport and/or Permanent Resident Card.
- Work Permits/Visas: Under the FMCSA 2026 Final Rule, non-domiciled drivers must possess a valid H-2A, H-2B, or E-2 visa if they are not Canadian/U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents.
- FAST Card: Possession of a Free and Secure Trade (FAST) card is highly preferred for expedited border processing.
2. Regulatory & Safety Standards
- Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse: Must be registered and "Clear" in the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
- Medical Fitness: Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC) as per MTO/USDOT requirements.
- Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in English (written and verbal) to communicate with border officials and satisfy FMCSA safety requirements.
3. Physical & Professional Attributes
- Ability to work an alternate-day schedule, which may include overnight stays.
- Professional demeanor suitable for representing the company at international borders and client sites.
Contract Terms & Benefits
- Duration: Initial 3-to-6 month contract term.
- Performance Review: Eligibility for full-time employment (including perks and pension) will be assessed at the 90-day mark.

- Insurance: Contractors must provide proof of valid WSIB coverage (or equivalent) and appropriate commercial liability insurance if operating their own power unit.
