About the role:
Intelica is a managed services provider serving Calgary and Edmonton, delivering managed IT, cybersecurity and IT strategy to Alberta businesses for more than twenty years. You’ll work across a wide range of client environments and industries, with a team of experienced technicians alongside you.
As a Junior Systems Analyst you’ll work across our clients’ IT environments — troubleshooting, maintaining and improving systems, networks and applications. This is a role built for someone early in their career who wants to learn quickly and is willing to be taught.
You will not be thrown in the deep end. Four senior technicians are available for escalation, and you’ll shadow project work before you run any of it.
What the schedule actually looks like:
We’d rather you know this before you apply than find out in month three.
- Standard hours are business hours, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, in our Calgary office and at client sites.
- After-hours project work is occasional. Our current juniors have each worked on fewer than five after-hours projects this year. When there’s an evening cutover or migration, you’ll usually be shadowing rather than leading.
- You will not be on the on-call rotation when you start. New team members join it once they’re ready — typically after six months.
- When you do join, the rotation is about 25 people deep, which works out to roughly one on-call week every six months. During your week you’d expect 5–10 calls that need a real response, and you get the following Friday off, paid.
What you’ll be doing:
- Work the service request queue — responding to client requests, troubleshooting, and escalating to senior technicians when needed
- Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot systems (servers, networks, applications) for performance and uptime
- Perform regular system health checks
- Assist with deploying, configuring and managing new systems and applications
- Support clients remotely and through on-site visits across Calgary
- Maintain system documentation — configurations, procedures and troubleshooting guides
- Track your time accurately against client work
- Shadow and support project work from planning through implementation
What we need from you:
Required
- 0–2 years in IT support, systems administration, or a related role — including co-op, practicum or home lab experience
- Working knowledge of Windows and Windows Server
- Basic networking fundamentals — LAN/WAN, DNS, DHCP, VPN
- Strong customer service instincts. Retail, hospitality, food service or volunteer experience counts here, and counts for a lot
- Clear written and verbal communication — you’ll be explaining technical problems to non-technical people every day
- Genuine willingness to learn, ask questions, and be corrected
Assets — not required, and we’ll train you on most of them
- Exposure to Azure or AWS
- Virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V)
- ConnectWise Manage, Control or Automate, or any RMM/PSA platform
- Endpoint detection tools (SentinelOne,
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint)
- Document management systems (NetDocuments, Worldox)
- Certifications — CompTIA, Microsoft, ITIL
Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 license and reliable access to a vehicle. You’ll travel to client sites around Calgary as part of a normal week — mileage is tracked and reimbursed for travel between our office and client sites.
- Able to lift 30 lbs.
- Currently located in Calgary
- Legal right to work in Canada
- Able to pass a criminal record check — several of our clients require it
- Comfortable working from our office and at client sites
What we offer:
- Paid certifications and tuition reimbursement. We pay for your CompTIA, Microsoft and ITIL exams. At this stage of your career that’s the fastest way to grow your earning power, and we’d rather you build it here.
- Four senior technicians on escalation. You’ll never be the last line of defense on a client issue.
- Exposure across a real client base. You’ll see more environments and technologies in a year here than in three years at a single in-house IT desk.
- Extended health, dental and vision care
- Disability insurance
- Paid time off
- Annual bonus after your first year, based on your performance
- Company events, and food more often than we’ll admit
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Work Location: In person — Calgary, AB
Intelica is an equal prospect employer. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates and are committed to building an inclusive workplace. If you require accommodation at any point in the hiring process, let us know and we’ll work with you.
