Overview

Reporting to the Head of Elementary, teachers work collegially within the team to support the school’s vision, mission and philosophy; support the school’s curricular and philosophical commitments as a welcoming Montessori/IB School; and support the school's commitment to the whole child. Teachers work with the Academic Head to ensure that the school’s curriculum provides a safe, supportive learning environment for students, teachers and all other members of the Lauremont community. Teachers help promote a culture where diversity is encouraged, and students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, exercise leadership and strive for academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

# 1 - Responsibilities – Classroom

- Plan, organize and provide students an educational experience designed to inspire and challenge students to discover the best of who they are and to achieve their full potential.
- Ensure a welcoming classroom environment in a manner that reflects the Lauremont School commitment to supporting students and their families, and the motto “I am Known”
- Support the growth and development of individual learners through the delivery of the Montessori philosophy
- Establish valuable relationships with teachers,



staff and parents across the school community
- Be an active and positive participant in the extracurricular and community life of the school
- Establish and maintain an orderly and attractive classroom mindful of the principles of Montessori and International Baccalaureate
- Maintain appropriate student behaviour through effective classroom management
- Determine, plan and implement a variety of student assessment strategies to meet programme needs of students
- Evaluate and interpret student learning in a professional manner
- Maintain regular and accurate records of student progress
- Communicate student progress to parents through parent-teacher interviews and report cards
- Write up and submit to Academic Head, all parent interviews, following prescribed procedure and format
- Maintain anecdotal observation of students and a record of daily lesson plans
- Implement and maintain Individual Instruction Plans (IIPs) for students with learning differences

# 2 - Responsibilities – School Community

- Develop and maintain a standard of professional behaviour, within and beyond the classroom, which exemplifies Montessori and International Baccalaureate principles
- Promote and create a collegial and supportive environment with co-teacher and teachers from other grade levels
- Participate actively in faculty and department meetings to plan, review and update the written curriculum
- Establish and maintain an orderly and attractive school environment in accordance with Montessori and International Baccalaureate principles
- Participate in community activities, related but not limited to, student development, parent education and public relations such as school concerts
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop, implement and evaluate school curriculum
- Seek out and participate in co-curricular activities each academic year for the benefit of students and the school community




- Determine and participate in professional development activities to support personal growth as well as the growth and development of the School.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

- Montessori Elementary teacher training diploma and a Bachelor’s Degree required
- Bachelor of Education and International Baccalaureate (IB) Training (asset)
- A demonstrated passion for working with children
- Commitment to strong student and teacher relationships
- Ability to instruct in a laptop environment
- A proven professional approach and work ethic
- A satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
- A satisfactory current Child Welfare Record Check from CAS
- Current First Aid CPR, and AED

The salary range is based on our current salary grid and ranges from $54, 268 to $126,719, with placement on the grid determined by qualifications and years of eligible and related experience.
