Location: Gitanyow, BC (no relocation assistance)

Term: Full time, grant-funded, one-year term

Salary: $64,895.00, plus benefits

Application Deadline: August 21, 2026

About Us

The Gitanyow Hereditary Chiefs Office works on behalf of the Gitanyow Huwilp to uphold Gitanyow Ayookxw (law), governance, and stewardship throughout Gitanyow Lax'yip. We are building a Gitanyow-owned, trauma- and culturally-informed training system — curriculum, facilitator guides, video modules, and visual learning assets — to be delivered first to Gitanyow staff and leadership, then to employers, contractors, and proponents operating within our territory.

The Opportunity

This role is the operational centre of the project. The Coordinator does not set cultural content or protocol — that authority rests with the Hereditary Chiefs, Elders, and knowledge holders. What the Coordinator owns is making the project actually happen: holding the schedule, managing three external consultants, coordinating Elder and knowledge holder engagement under Chiefs' direction, and producing every piece of reporting the funder requires.

Two things make this role harder than a standard project-coordinator position, and we want candidates to understand that going in:

- Filling 15 employer sessions with confirmed commitments. Not expressions of interest: but actual written participation commitments from contractors, proponents, and agencies operating in Gitanyow lax'yip, secured in advance of the delivery window. This is the single highest-risk accountability in the role.
- Building the evidence the project's outcomes claims currently lack. Designing baseline and pre/post assessment tools, and an incident/workload tracking method with Gitanyow staff,

so the project can actually demonstrate reduced burden and reduced harm, not just report attendance.

Key Accountabilities

Project delivery & schedule (~30%) — Maintain the master schedule, milestone tracker, and risk register; sequence curriculum design, production, internal delivery, post-production, and external rollout; escalate slippage in writing within five business days.

Employer recruitment & external delivery (~25%) — Build the employer target list; secure written commitments; run 15 employer sessions; track attendance; support development of the Stage 2 mandate that could make training completion a condition of operating in the territory.

Evaluation & evidence (~15%) — Design baseline and pre/post assessment tools; build a consent-based incident and workload tracking method with staff; produce the outcome evidence package for the funder's final report.

Consultant & contract management (~15%) — Manage the curriculum lead, video production company, and graphic recorder — scopes, deliverables, invoicing, acceptance, and Gitanyow ownership of all materials produced.

Elder & knowledge holder coordination (~10%) — Coordinate scheduling, honoraria, and travel; maintain traceable records of consent and conditions of use; route all cultural content through Chiefs' and knowledge holders' review before it is finalized.

Financial administration & funder reporting (~5%) — Track expenditure against the approved budget; prepare interim and final reports to New Relationship Trust; maintain the audit file.

Qualifications Required

- 2-year diploma minimum in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3–7 years of experience coordinating projects, training programs, or community-based initiatives, with a demonstrated ability to work and make decisions independently.
- Strong organizational, scheduling, and written reporting skills: this role reports slippage and risk in writing, on a schedule.
- Comfort managing external contractor relationships, budgets, and funder reporting requirements.
- Valid BC Driver's Licence (minimum Class 5) or equivalent, and ability to travel within the region.

Assets

- Understanding of Gitanyow governance, Ayookxw, and the hereditary system.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practice and culturally safe workplace approaches.
- Experience with First Nations governments or Indigenous-led programs.
- Experience building evaluation tools or outcome-evidence frameworks for a funder.

Why Join Us?

This is a chance to build a Gitanyow-owned training system from the ground up — one that shifts the burden of cultural education off Gitanyow staff and sets a real standard for how employers engage within Gitanyow territory. You'll work directly with the Manager of GETI, the Hereditary Chiefs, Elders, and knowledge holders, and take ownership of turning a funded proposal into a working, measurable program.

Preference will be given to qualified Gitanyow and other Indigenous applicants.
