Security Guard (Nightclub)
Position Title
Security Guard
Reports To
Head of Security
Position Summary
The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming setting for patrons, staff, performers, and contractors within an AGCO-licensed nightclub. Security Guards are expected to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and excellent customer service while enforcing provincial legislation, venue policies, and responsible alcohol service practices.
Qualifications
- Valid Ontario Security Guard Licence.
- Valid Smart Serve Certification.
- Current Emergency First Aid/CPR certification (preferred).
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and special events.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Physically capable of standing and walking for extended periods.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Control access to the premises by verifying identification and age requirements.
- Monitor occupancy levels to ensure compliance with fire code and venue capacity limits.
- Conduct bag inspections and security screening where applicable.
- Patrol the interior and exterior of the premises to identify safety and security concerns.
- Monitor patron behaviour and intervene early to prevent disturbances.
- Enforce house policies and applicable legislation respectfully and consistently.
- Monitor alcohol consumption and report signs of intoxication to management and Smart Serve-certified staff.
- Assist in preventing the service of alcohol to intoxicated persons or minors.
- Remove or escort disruptive, intoxicated, or unauthorized persons from the premises when required using only reasonable and necessary force in accordance with Ontario law.
- Respond to medical emergencies, fires, alarms, evacuations, and other critical incidents.
- Preserve crime scenes and cooperate with emergency services when necessary.
- Maintain accurate incident reports and witness statements.
- Protect venue assets and assist in preventing theft, vandalism, and property damage.
- Monitor CCTV systems and report suspicious activity.
- Assist with crowd management during peak periods, performances, and special events.
- Provide professional customer service while maintaining a visible security presence.
- Communicate effectively with management, staff, police, EMS, fire services, and AGCO inspectors when required.
Compliance Responsibilities
- Comply with the Private Security and Investigative Services Act.
- Support compliance with the Liquor Licence and Control Act and AGCO standards.
- Follow all venue Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain confidentiality regarding incidents, investigations, and patron information.
- Complete all required documentation before the end of each shift.
Physical Requirements
- Walk and stand for prolonged periods.
- Work in crowded, loud, and low-light environments.
- Respond quickly to emergencies.
- Safely perform physical interventions when legally justified and properly trained.
Professional Standards
Security Guards shall:
- Act honestly, professionally, and impartially.
- Treat all patrons with dignity, respect, and fairness.
- Use effective verbal de-escalation whenever possible.
- Apply only the minimum force reasonably necessary when authorized by law.
- Maintain a neat appearance and proper uniform at all times.
- Arrive fit for duty and remain free from impairment while on shift.
- Immediately report any safety concerns, incidents, injuries, or policy violations.

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
