Aquastar Swim Lessons Ltd is engaging Adaptive Aquatics Instructors across BC. You provide 1 on 1 private swim lessons as an independent contractor to autistic swimmers and swimmers with varying support needs, at client owned pools, clubhouses, and community facilities. You set your own schedule and earn 18 to 80 dollars per hour based on session type and experience tier.
About Aquastar
Operating since 2017, Aquastar serves 600+ families annually across BC. We are looking for instructors who bring real experience supporting autistic and disabled clients, and who want to build trust, confidence, and water safety skills one lesson at a time. We follow each family's language and communication preferences and work alongside parents and support workers to make every lesson work for the swimmer in front of you.
Regions
Vancouver, Langley, Abbotsford, Maple Ridge, and the Lower Mainland
Nanaimo, Parksville, Victoria, and Duncan on Vancouver Island
What You Will Do
Deliver private 1 on 1 swim lessons to autistic children, teens, and adults with varying support needs
Build predictable, structured lesson routines and adjust pacing to each swimmer
Use visual supports, clear communication, and positive reinforcement to teach water safety and swim skills
Recognize sensory overload early and adapt calmly, without rushing the swimmer
Collaborate with parents and support workers before and during sessions
Track progress and submit lesson reports after each session
Arrive on time with equipment ready for every lesson
Must Have Qualifications
Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent, or actively working toward it
Standard First Aid and CPR-C
6 months to 1 year of hands on 1 on 1 experience supporting autistic or disabled individuals, paid or structured volunteer, both count equally
Reliable transportation to client locations
Strong communication skills and genuine patience under pressure
Assets, Not Required
Criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening, already completed
Lifesaving Society Adapted Swim Instructor module
Canucks Autism Network training
Swim Whisperers or Special Olympics aquatics training
Background as an education assistant, behaviour interventionist, support worker, or recreation therapy aide
Pay and Terms
18 to 80 dollars per hour, tiered by session type and experience level
Independent contractor arrangement, you control your schedule
Travel compensation covered when the lesson is at the client's home or clubhouse
No travel compensation when the lesson is at a shared or community pool
