Operating Supervisor – Thermomechanical Pulp (TMP)

Location: Kapuskasing, ON – Paper Mill
Salary: $90,000 – $105,000 per year

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operating Supervisor – Thermomechanical Pulp (TMP) to lead the daily operations of our client's TMP manufacturing process. In this role, you will provide direction and leadership to ensure the safe, productive, and cost-effective production of steam, bleach, and newsprint-grade Thermomechanical Pulp (TMP). You will work closely with operations and maintenance teams to meet production, quality, safety, and energy targets while supporting continuous improvement and maximizing the profitability of the mill.

Qualifications

- English (spoken and written) is required; French is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and oversee daily TMP manufacturing operations to ensure production targets for steam, bleach, and newsprint-grade pulp are achieved safely and efficiently.
- Lead operations and maintenance crews responsible for two TMP production lines with a combined capacity of approximately 1,050 tonnes per day.
- Promote a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with quality, environmental, and operational standards.
- Reduce manufacturing costs by identifying and implementing process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Coordinate weekly staffing schedules, including crew line-ups, vacations, and floating holidays.




- Manage the reliable production of pulp, steam, and bleach while maintaining full operating capacity.
- Maximize revenue opportunities through energy management programs, including DR2, OR, 5 CPS, and transmission cost initiatives.
- Identify, implement, and monitor improvements to manufacturing processes and operating methods.
- Investigate and resolve operational issues to minimize downtime and improve performance.
- Prioritize equipment maintenance and work with maintenance teams to develop effective repair plans that maximize equipment availability.
- Ensure all process equipment is maintained in safe, reliable, and economical operating condition.
- Maintain and update training manuals while ensuring operators receive effective training and development.
- Conduct monthly safety and environmental meetings with each operating crew.
- Ensure TMP pulp quality consistently meets Paper Mill specifications.
- Apply the Results Management Framework in daily operations and decision-making.
- Identify employee training and development needs to strengthen team capability.
- Assist in developing the TMP operating budget and manage departmental spending within budget.
- Identify opportunities to reduce both operating and maintenance costs.
- Provide weekday 24-hour operational coverage as required.
- Support Paper Mill management by providing recommendations for pulp storage and furnish adjustments.
- Review and evaluate improvement suggestions submitted by team members.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support mill operations and business objectives.

Pay: $90,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
