Electrical Controls Designer

The company is a leading design and manufacturer of cooking equipment for the commercial foodservice industry.

Great opportunity! We are currently seeking a full time, permanent Electrical Controls Designer to develop industrial electrical control systems for commercial cooking equipment. Responsibilities include designing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, power distribution, safety circuits, and integrating commercially available control components. This is not a PCB or electronic circuit design role.

The role requires the ability to adapt and will include a variety of tasks. The ideal candidate is hands on, thrives on detail and accuracy, able to manage their time, and able to take direction or take the lead. The successful candidate will leverage previous experience for the development and carrying out of a variety of challenging and new concept projects.

Hours: Mon – Fri 7:30 AM – 4 PM

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Leads and manages the electrical control system design for new products, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, safety circuits, and integration of commercially available controllers.
- Coordinate development and integration of digital controllers with external suppliers.
- Redevelop current analog controls, implementing new technologies into current products.
- Review and approve electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, electrical documentation, control panels, and component selections.
- Develop testing processes, and perform testing and validation of new designs
- Assist in generating working prototypes
- Troubleshoot electrical systems, perform root cause analysis of failures, and implement continuous improvement strategies.




- Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer software (SolidWorks, Autocad & Microsoft Office)
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Perform detailed documentation to track project development and design process
- Ensure project timeline is met and project stays within budget
- Participate in company cross-training program (as trainee and trainer)
- Adheres to all company policies & procedures, health and safety policies & procedures, regulations & standards and quality standards
- Select contactors, relays, transformers and power components
- Ensure compliance with UL, CSA and NSF requirements
- Coordinate with controller and component suppliers for product integration and technical support.
- Commit to and participate in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods
- Receive training on the use of new software as it is added to the environment, On-going training to improve in areas such as time management and specific job skill upgrading may be required
- Other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned
- Work with minimal supervision

Skills and Qualifications (General requirements):

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic Engineering or related field required (minimum)
- Minimum 5 years experience in related field
- Firm grasp of electrical, control engineering concepts,



and experience designing control systems and products with demonstrated knowledge
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using CAD software such as Solid Works, AutoCAD, ability to read electrical diagrams
- Experience designing industrial electrical control systems, AC power distribution, control wiring, safety circuits, and electrical schematics.
- Experience working with industrial AC power systems (120V, 208V, 220V, 240V, 480V and 600V).
- Experience selecting and integrating industrial electrical components such as contactors, relays, motor starters, transformers, timers, solenoid valves, thermostats, high-limit controls, heating elements, and safety devices.
- Understanding of machine operations
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team

Please note: This position focuses on industrial electrical control system design and integration. It does not involve PCB layout, embedded firmware development, or electronic circuit board design.

Job Types: Permanent, Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
