NSB Omega is searching for a Construction Superintendent for our Client in AB.

Assignment Description
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee field operations for construction projects within an operating oil refinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day site activities, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with refinery standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.

This position requires strong leadership, exceptional planning and coordination skills, and extensive experience working in heavy industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Direct and supervise all in office construction activities.

- Coordinate daily work with subcontractors, craft personnel, inspectors, and refinery operations.

- Ensure strict compliance with all refinery safety procedures, permit requirements, and environmental regulations.

- Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses.

- Monitor project schedules and proactively address delays or conflicts.

- Review construction drawings, specifications, and work packages.

- Coordinate equipment, materials, and workforce to maintain project productivity.

- Conduct quality inspections to ensure work meets project specifications and applicable codes.

- Manage subcontractor performance and ensure contractual obligations are met.

- Maintain accurate daily reports, progress updates, and project documentation.

- Participate in planning meetings, shutdown/turnaround coordination, and constructability reviews.





- Work closely with project management, engineering, procurement, and client representatives.

- Identify and resolve field issues while minimizing impacts to schedule and budget.

- Promote a positive safety culture and mentor field personnel.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum 10 years of construction supervision experience in heavy industrial projects.

- At least 5 years of experience working in oil refineries, petrochemical plants, or similar process facilities.

- Strong knowledge of refinery construction practices, mechanical systems, structural steel, piping, civil, and equipment installation.

- Experience managing multiple subcontractors simultaneously.

- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction schedules.

- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

- Strong organizational and planning abilities.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.

- Valid driver's license and ability to pass required background checks and drug/alcohol screening.

Preferred Qualifications

- Journeyperson trade certification or technical diploma.

- OSHA 30 (or equivalent occupational health and safety training).

- CSTS, H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Confined Space, Fall Protection, and other refinery-required certifications.

- Experience with refinery shutdowns, turnarounds, and capital projects.

- Experience using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
