Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to support the financial operations of our construction company. The ideal candidate will assist in maintaining accurate financial records, processing invoices, preparing reports, and supporting the accounting team with day-to-day tasks. This role is ideal for a candidate with basic accounting knowledge, looking to grow within the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in processing accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R) transactions
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare and enter journal entries
- Assist in maintaining general ledger accounts
- Process employee expense reports and verify receipts
- Help with payroll preparation and timesheet verification
- Track job costing and support project accountants with budget monitoring
- Assist with bank reconciliations and monthly closing procedures
- Maintain and organize financial files, contracts, and invoices
- Help compile documentation for audits and tax filings
- Communicate with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams regarding billing and payments
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial procedures
- Support the Senior Accountant and Finance Manager with ad hoc tasks and reports
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 1-2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience (construction industry experience preferred)
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 300, Jonas, or Procore is a plus)
- Strong Excel skills and basic knowledge of MS Office
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Understanding of basic construction accounting principles (job costing, progress billing, retainage, etc.) is an asset
Working Conditions:
- Full time position, Monday to Friday
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
