The 5F4 unit is a quick-paced Hematology/Oncology unit within the Medicine Program, specializing in hematological oncology care. The team offers comprehensive training, including advanced chemotherapy administration (OPREP and Beacon) and charge nurse duties. The unit fosters a collaborative and supportive environment, helping new staff navigate their learning and transition smoothly. Due to the dynamic nature of the unit, there is a significant volume of diagnostic transfers, along with frequent transfusion support and chemotherapy administration. Ideal candidates will bring a positive attitude, a strong willingness to learn, and the energy to provide exceptional patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment. Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on this very busy fast paced unit. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting, and positioning of patients up to 50 lbs. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment. Criminal records check with vulnerable sector check for external applicants within the last 90 days. Proficient written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to work independently while working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. Ability to follow care plans and instructions from nurses or supervisors.
